What I think the project pages need is more of a way to draw people in to look at the build log content (and to do that, we need images and embedded video). A lot of people will just skim text until they find some cool stuff to look at.
A few quick suggestions:
#1: Give the option to embed a Youtube video to each project's main page. Especially for the HackadayPrize folks, that are required to have one anyway as part of the rules. I think this would give us a more meaningful way to convey our projects to the judges and hackaday users. It would be very similar to the way Kickstarter does it, where each campaign has an intro video... except they would be kept optional for people that don't want to go through the trouble.
#2: The project log entry summaries on the main project page currently strip away any images and just post the first couple of sentences. I think being able to have a picture or thumbnail from each project log summary would give people more of a reason to click the links. I don't think this is a lot of work for you, just stop stripping out the images that would normally make it into the summary. Or, you could add a summary text field and a summary image to each build log entry, that would show up on the main project page.
Thanks, other than that, I'm really liking Hackaday Projects. It gave me motivation to actually document my project(s), and for that, I'm grateful.
