Ok I just added my first project. Some things I ... um ... learned.
First You have to publish before you can add details.
Second I was only able to upload one picture at a time.
Third (just now) hit the "submit" button not the "Give feedback" one.

It would be nice to have a save but don't publish yet button. (as I don't have a lot of time at one sitting.)

Thanks for the feedback factor! Here is what we are thinking:

Details being after creating project; we are still improving the project creation flow. Right now we decided to ask some basic questions about the project first, then get more details about the project after you create it.

Multi photo upload; I think this is a great feature to have. I'll talk to the team.

"Draft projects" is something we've been thinking about. We haven't decided if it's really useful for our users nor figured out what's the best way to implement it.

I agree I would love a 'Draft' mode for projects and build logs. I rarely have time to finish an entire post in one sitting.

Hey having trouble upload project photos - it lets me choose a picture to upload, but the photo never shows up and just shows placeholder "photo coming soon". Tried in Chrome and Firefox latest versions. Windows 8.1

Do you happen to know what's the image type/size ? Right now we only support images up to 2Mb in jpg/png formats. Are you getting an error message or just a silent ignore ?

If there are more than 3 "Steps" in the project, it isn't obvious that there are more steps unless you click the button. Would be good to have some visual indication that there are indeed additional steps. See FPGA Arduino Project. Even a "..." or "more..." would be a nice addition.

Sorry for the confusion! We are still working on notification emails and the term hardcore was put there as an expression; "hardcore (awesome, rad), you got a skull" . But I see how this could create more confusions, so we changed the copy.

I want to be able to add external links without needing to Edit Project. Doesn't seem to make sense given the other items can be edited without the need to edit the project.

We wanted to make it easy to access to things you may edit frequently (like logs) and put everything else behind Edit Project to remove clutter. Since external links won't change often, it's also behind Edit Project. Of course we are open to improving Hackaday Projects, so I'll discuss this with my team members. Thank you!

Cool. I think links are something that grows alongside the project. So as I'm deciding on components or finding documents or reading articles on HaD and learning about the think I'm building, I may embed more links.

Because this project that I'm doing is not something that existed *before* HaD projects, I may run into all sorts of interesting links. I could put them in git, but I thought I may add them here if I'm using this to replace some of what I am doing there.

Any chance of being able to embed links in build logs? The current editing flow feels more like a comment system then an editor. This is cool, but I already have a comment system. Links to part details or datasheets or such could be cool to have in the build logs.

Hey technolomaniac, could you expand "embed links"? If you are talking about adding links, we have our editor for that and we are planning to convert any http:// text into a link by default.

Of course the ideal UX wouldn't require the user to enter the href at all. Just an "Add Link" perhaps. Not sure if others would use it but I would like to add URLs sometimes to any place I would enter normal text and have them shortened as clickable text.

The components in my parts list show the categorization however I would like it very much if I could jump the part number on findchips or the like. I would like to be able to bounce between here and the pricing / avail. It'd also be nice to have a link to the datasheets there. :)

I would like to see "wiki sytle" edit history. The project history itself should be versioned so that if an accidental edit is made it can be reverted, diffed, etc.. There are three use cases for this; the first being accidental edits -- doing some edits this evening from my mobile made a mess when my phone decided that I hit the back button. The second use case is more in the spirit of the overall idea and goal old hack-a-day projects, as it would make it possible to add project contributors on a selective or even completely open basis without the project owner having too much concern about being able to retrieve previous revisions. The third use case is to be able to see the evolution of a project, in a 'timeline' (facebook-like) format.

Hello, when you go to your project details and then to edit projects, you should be able to change the picture of the project. Just rollover to the picture and press "replace".

While resizing my browser window, on some window sizes a persons profile picture scales to take up the whole width of the window. I'm guessing because the Profile pictures don't have defined sizes.

I think the maximum scaled size of the picture should be limited to the full size of the original file, so it does not get blown up and become pixelated. Also I am experiencing problems where I submitted this comment once and it did not show, so I resubmitted it until it was shown.

Hey Christopher, the resize issue: it's because we use responsive design. We aim to show HaD Projects content on all devices & screen sizes beautifully. You can read more about it here if you are interested: http://alistapart.com/article/responsive-web-design/

We're still working on this and will be improving it.

just tried to add mpinner to the LED spike project. He was not added when i selected "publish" again. Is there a notification request sent to him to accept? If so, I've seen no feedback in system.

Right now only a project owner can add contributors so you should reach out to them directly. In the future we'll try to add something along the lines of 'request to join a project' which would simplify this process. Thanks !

The picture interface is confusing. Apparently the pictures need to be an exact square or they automatically get cropped, as I found from trial and error. It would be great if the "Completed Projects" pictures were thumbnails that opened to a larger picture or group of pictures rather than just the tiny square that it has now.

Hello scubabear, sorry for the late reply.

Yes, we do crop the images (but we keep the originals) in order to fit them into the project pages, search results, etc.

As for the Completed Projects; we wanted to keep that section as simple as possible. If it's a past project and you don't want to document it, that's the right section. If you would like to add more details, photos and other things, we think those belong to "Add a project" section. Hope this helps.

Ps. I'll look into the things I've built section to see how we can improve it.

I agree. I just uploaded my first photo and was quite surprised to see it cropped to an exact square, cutting off much of the carefully composed content.

It would be nice if the top nav had a "My Projects," or "Followed Projects" link. For the latter, it would mean that projects one originally submits should be automatically followed. The issue I am having is after submitting a couple projects, its not a single click away to get back to either of them to add more details.

"Description" and "Details" are a bit confusing. Especially because when you click "Edit Project" you can only alter the Description and not the Details. I don't have a solution to this yet. Sure we could put instructions up about it but it would be better if it was somewhat obvious.

We should have some little preview images from the posts in the build log in the build log list. It would be more attractive that way. Right now its just a wall of text and I can't quickly at a glance tell if there's new content there I want to look at.
