Generally good. Had two problems so far:
1) Build instructions go all out of order when editing and saving, going back in and fixing it (manual, tedious) will restore it (Project Ice Station Thuban). I dare not touch it now...! I saw that others had this problem.
2) Project details: if an image is at or near the "Read more" break, it shows up full size and clicking on the read more link just shows the image, does not take you to the read more text. Moving the image around helps in some ways. The see all details link continues to work properly, however. (This happened on Project Cicadidae vitula)

Hello Kenji, the fix for 1) will be pushed in a release next week. I've added 2) as a bug. We have had a few issues with the Read More link causing problems with video and images. Thanks for letting us know about these problems.

Is anyone else unable to vote? When I click a vote button it gets stuck on "Voting for [project]…". I would suspect something's weird with my browser configuration, but I did successfully vote once using the same browser configuration the other day.

When i follow a hacker, i follow all his projects automatically. Would it make sence to increment the follower count on the projects as well? I don't see why i should click all projects when i get the same messages but it would be great to know for the hacker, or not?

- I can't seem to use the context menu for text editing. As I understand it, I have to highlight text to make the menu appear, but nothing does. I'm using Chromium on Archlinux, tools such as ghostery and adblock are disabled on this site.
- I find it difficult to distinguish between a top level comment and a reply to another comment, such as on this page when there are many comments. I feel that a vertical bar running down the left side of the comments or a similar visual indicator would be helpful.
- I would really like for the short project description to be alt text or something that I can pull up while browsing projects. Otherwise it's hard to tell that my 'slodac' project is about a laptop, and not the desk or keyboard also shown in the picture.

With the context menu, when you select the text does your cursor end up outside of the editing window when you release the mouse button? I had this issue and the menu was not showing up (I was selecting from right to left so I went off the left side of the area).

The issue with comments has been reported and is waiting for a fix.

Good idea about the hover text. I've submitted an issue to see if this can be improved soon.

Even when selecting text and keeping the cursor inside the editing area, the context menu doesn't appear. Time permitting, I'm going to look into redactor and see if I'm doing something to break it.

No matter what I do, the steps will not stay in order on one of my projects. I delete them, and add them in order and then save them and they will not stay put. Dragging them won't do it either.

I'm sorry but I strongly dislike the voting process. By pairing things up and asking people to vote for one or the other I alternate between being forced to chose between two projects I think are very good and giving a vote for the better of two projects, neither one Of which I like. My guess is this was the easiest to code. What is wrong with a summary page where you vote and submit the final decision? That would also be easy to code.

We didn't want it to be just an overall popularity contest so we went this route. Don't worry though, community voting has no effect on the overall contest outcome. That is left to the judging panels.

I think this site faces the same challenges seen by other sites that aggregate content around the web; you want topics to stay fresh, but you also want to improve visibility of items people like. Sites like Reddit use up/downvotes combined with a time-based decay algorithm to sort posts, and also give you different options for viewing content ("hot", "top" from a given time period, "new", "rising", etc).

My feeling is that the HaD.io team used the current voting system as a way to bypass the self-reinforcing 'most skulled' default sorting mechanism. They want projects that haven't gotten as much visibility to have a fair shot in the vote; if they gather enough data, this method should remove a lot of the bias. I'm definitely curious to see how it turns out.

Thanks for reporting the bug. Each entry is displayed in full unless it is more than 4156 chars long. As a work around so you don't get the broken link, you can insert the 'Read More' tag earlier on. To do that, go to edit the details/description/log and select the point where you want to insert the tag. When you select something, a little menu appears. The last button on the menu inserts the Read More tag. Only the content before the tag will be displayed on the main project page.

I noticed while I was voting for the Prize Projects that some of the projects came up more than once in some cases several times. The project I wanted to vote for never came up at all... seems a bit unfair...???

Hey Sammy. We do randomization & limited number of votes in order to ensure everyone gets a fair chance and that the system can't be easily abused. That said - this is only a first voting cycle ("best idea"), and we'll make sure we incorporate this feedback for next ones. At very minimum, we'll make sure to increase the limit on number of votes. This is likely to have already been mentioned, but just a random suggestion for the parts list is a CSV upload option. Provided the required layout has been met, I'm confident it will make adding everything that little bit easier. Although at the same time, that does not help you folk with the mountain of work you're doing at the moment. Great job so far though. I've not found anything awkward yet.

I notied when I load my hackaday project it seems to load the entire build log. Can you put an option to just show the title of each build log? (Especially when a build log contains many images)

Hello VP, we made a change a little while ago so that more of the project logs are displayed.

If you don't want all of a log to be displayed, you can insert the Read More tag. You do this you go to edit the log and select the point where you want to insert the tag. When you select something, a little menu appears. The last button on the menu inserts the Read More tag. Only the content before the tag will be displayed on the main project page.

Since the site is basically a two column vertical scrolling site, it is often difficult to find the boundaries between two sections. For example: When I want to post a project update, the latest update is on top. However, I have to scroll down through my older updates to click "Add Project Log". I can't hit END on my keyboard either, because that would go to the bottom of the page where comments are. It would be more convenient if frequently used commands are always on top of the page (maybe there should be a non-scrolling navbar?).

Just an idea for the new feed, but if you're cutting down on the amount of "x is now following y" it might make more sense, since the list will be shorter, to do it dropdown style a la facebook instead of an entire page, meaning that I can stay where I am on the site but keep an eye on the feed

I sort of did a workaround by typing enough stuff so that the second youtube video didn't make the front page of my project. But I'm pretty sure it would still do it again if I added another youtube embedded video to the beginning of another log entry.

Here is feedback on the personal "Feed" link. I don't think "[Name] is now following [project you are also following]" should be in my personal feed, or at least let me turn it off.

I have stopped using the Feed entirely for some time now because it is swamped with "[Name] has started following [popular project]!" That doesn't interest me but it is the vast majority of the entries. The things that interest me are lost in that noise.

What I care about is: Project I am following has been updated, Someone has started following one of your projects, A comment has been added to one of your projects, or someone has replied to one of your comments/posts.

On parts list: it would be nice to be able to include links: to where that part could be purchased from, datasheets, reference material, etc.

Under "feed": Although I would be interested in people following me, I find a new line for every time someone follows a project that I follow to be superfluous.

- URLs in component descriptions now show as links when you include http://.
- We have a new feed in the pipeline. Watch this space.
- There is a link to 'Your projects' in your personal menu which appears when you hover over your image top right of every page. I'll make a note regarding this as we may be able to include it on the feed page or a personal dashboard in the future.

maybe you guys should make it so I don't get the (horrid) mobile version of the site on my desktop. I'd suggest using max/min-device-width in the query instead of max/min-width
