I’ve never heard of that. After looking up the term, I would say yes. I’ll look into it more. Thanks!

Edit: I didn’t find any project bounties directed to makers, but maybe you, or someone else, knows a keyword or website for that kind of thing. I’m thinking it would be cool for site visitors to request fun or educational projects they would like someone to work on. The idea is that someone would post an request for a project (likely to cost under $1000 to produce) and either ask for a bounty or not, and other visitors can further support a project request with more funding or upvotes.
there are a few wish lists that you can use for inspiration. eg
I have one project - #3niti alpha
https://hackaday.io/project/19989-3niti-alpha
It has 345 followers, but only 141 views - how it's even possible?...
probably through the auto-follow onboarding process where people get ask what they like and then click on certain projects to follow, without actually looking at it in detail, because they're still trying to get through the onboarding process.
I follow some projects directly from the feed. That probably doesn't generate a view.
interesting thing is that it's the only project from my other 15 that shows such thing - may be people like big digit 3 in orange circle and follow digits without looking? ;)
I’d like to propose an update for HaD.io projects and to HaD blog posts which would allow similar, or related, projects to be classified by the community, and eventually by algorithms; rather than just by project members. As an example, several motor projects that integrate coils into multilayer PCBs have been recently produced. If someone wants to develop, or iterate on, a design, it would be convenient for all such projects on HaD to be filtered in a search. The creator could add an existing classification tag for #motor and then create a tag for #PCBcoil. After this, a general HaD member can add their own tag to further categorize the type of motor as a #motor.stepper and #DC. The next part would take a more significant effort, but an algorithm can parse project descriptions and provide additional classification tags.Allow visitors to filter projects by the creator, member tags, or algorithm tags.
Thanks a classification algorithm sounds interesting. The search was recently updated to include components, it's not exactly what you're asking for but it's the first step https://hackaday.io/search?term=pcb&component=22pF%2520Capacitor
It already exist may be in a slightly different form than you expect. It is called a "list". There are projects grouped into: 3D printer, robotic, homebrew computer etc.
can any HaD member, that isn’t a member of a project, add a tag to a project or blog post and can you use multiple classification tags at once in a search filter in order to narrow down the number of related projects?
I think only project members can add tags that visitors can select from a list.
May be you want to use google site:hackaday.io?
You have as much chance of finding stuff with the right keyword than random strangers that could use totally different tags than you would use to describe things. :P
List are curated, so the classifications are uniform. You would only need to nail it down further more if you have hundreds of entries in a list. Look at your own example. How many PCB motors are there?
BTW: https://duckduckgo.com/?q=PCB+motor+site%3Ahackaday.io&atb=v109-5_f&ia=web
I see your point.
I think allowing strangers to use completely different keywords and then using algorithms to link the keywords to other keywords would provide visitors ways to serendipitously stumble upon pages they normally wouldn’t have visited.

Edit: @K.C. Lee Thank you for your reply. I'm not able to reply to your post below, so I'll reply here.
I agree, the community should only be able to add, not remove or change, tags to someone else's creation. The creator's original tags can be listed separately from the community's amended/added tags, so that it's clear what the creator originally intended. Creators post creations on this site in order to share their creation with the community, and allowing the community to add tags that the creator didn't think to add can help others find the creator's project.
As a content provider, I have seriously issue if I don't have the editorial say on what is being tagged on ultimately **MY** creation and as such I do have the rights to tag my articles. There are potential negative connotations or associations with letting someone else tag your content.
At most the readers can suggest additional tags, BUT it is ultimately MY rights to tag it. Not your nor anyone else's right nor business.
That's what I think. If that's implemented and I don't have the option to opt out, I think I'll delete all my contents.
Some of us don't like being tagged/labelled especially where we hang out..
Code snippet for C++ not handling multi-line comments correctly. See 3rd code block vs 1st or 2nd. in my log. The highlight is done incorrectly.
https://hackaday.io/project/158058-transistor-tester/log/146130-markus-firmware-customization
Thanks, probably will update the highlight library. It also looks like multiline section was classed as python instead of cpp.
I tried to change it to C++, but it just doesn't want to stay in C++.
Still won't change to C++ for me. The code doesn't understand lines are enclosed in multi-line comments. End results are not much different.
Oh yeah sorry, I meant the new version 'will' work better. I'll see about getting in the next deployment.
I am adding another log and my first code snippet has the same type of multiline comment, but it shows up correctly. It is not the multiline comment that caused the highlight issue.
if you need more code snippets to debug, this seems broken too https://hackaday.io/project/158460-sound-button-hack/log/146415-arduino-code
Dear support,
I would like to ask You a question. What about adding an option to unsubscribe from some contest?
There is an option to add project into som list like "Hackaday 2018 price contest" But I didn't see any way to remove the project from list. Eg someone needs to fix a bug. So if it's not too late, it's fine to remove it before ending.
Thank you
If you need this asap, change the project to private, save, and then back to public. Private setting will remove the project from current contests.
Good to know, thank you. What about some likes/comments, will be removed in private mode? And also, will be available after bringing back to public?
Likes, comments, and follows are not removed. But while private it will only display likes, the others return when switched back to public.
Hi - inviting people to join a project from the project page seems buggy. I find the person in search and try to add them but usually get the message "Something is wrong. Please try again." Is there another way to adding people to a project?
Update: adding people from the "edit project" page seems to work better!
The map on the Hackerspaces page is completely unusable on mobile - it doesn't seem to support touch events. The only things that work are the buttons (zoom, etc.) but I can't even pan the map. I'd suggest using Leaflet for the map.
Also, LOGS view ought to list links to all logs as an Index so it's easy to jump to one particular log quickly without having to scroll through the logs.
Hey Anool, you can condense all of the logs and it becomes an index. There's an expand/ collapse button on the top right of the logs.
Can the "ADD COMPONENTS" part of the Project be made more user friendly. Adding each component, one line at a time is really awkward. Shouldn't it be possible to parse and read a CSV file to build a BoM, just like Digikey or Mouser?
@Sophi Kravitz , @Lutetium , @Aleksandar Bradic
To be honest, I would really overhaul the whole components, files and assembly instruction sections — move them to a separate subpage, for a start, displaying them together.
Hey Anool,
We have tried to provide some of this capability via a FC Pro Open Hardware integration, but it hasn't been publicly visible nor directly integrated into the core Hackaday.io flow. We'll make sure to prioritize this. Thanks!
On my netbook (ASUS 1005HA, 1024x600 screen), the top banner in the PM/Chat page is unnecessarily thick and overlaps the chat frames at the top. I can't see whether or not the top person in the list is online or not! Codefix, plzkthx.
Don’t get salty, i’m sure either they’re working, considering, or it’s just you. I never liked the mobile site, it’s a pain to use.
It's actually not the mobile site that's being served to my netbook. I'd be even louder if it was...
HI @Starhawk we hear you and appreciate your feedback! Lots of improvements in the works. Thanks for the comment.
Can you make the world icon in the public chat bigger please.
Some of us Dinosaurs already see double ;-)
On tagging and inviting people- When you tag someone with a generic name in the chat, like steve of something, there's 100 of them, and the chances of the one you want popping up in the 5 that you can choose from is very slim. Also, i tried to invite @Austin Tomson to the #Chat for Drones, and he didn't show up. Idk what's the problem with it.
Not sure why Austin won't show up, but another option to look into is enabling a public chat for the drones project. A public room skips the whole invite process, and you get a public chat button on the project page. You can still invite contributors to the existing chat room. https://cdn.hackaday.io/images/7148251524677483235.png
Sure, try it out and let me know what you think. Just to be clear, you will see two rooms in chat, the public one will have a world icon. You can share that URL and visitors can see the chat but not post until they register and join it.
it's a neat idea i guess, but i would rather it just make the original room public, instead of two seperate rooms. It's kinda confusing, i don't know which to post in
the spam is becoming a downer more and more, could you share some thoughts on how you'll work on it? What's in the pipeline? Strategies?
btw. I've already reported the person a while ago - 184 projects by now https://hackaday.io/hacker/298411-lee
Sorry, it's a priority and thanks for the reports. There are ongoing changes to existing strategies as they find workarounds. It needs to be done in a way that doesn't impact everyone else's experience.
I don't think anyone feels the need to post +20 projects a day, so maybe a restriction is something everyone can live with. I think shadow banning and some more moderators could help for a start. (I came back to say it's 208 projects now)
some of that is already implemented, and you should see less spam now.
[this comment has been deleted]
https://hackaday.io/XOCLUBXOSHOP made 509 identical projects to spam/SEO :-(
we do have a timeout for project creation, but bots just wait long enough to bypass that. we have some different strategies on, and there should be less spam now.
The ---more--- tag doesn't seem to work on the "my pages" list — the whole content is displayed instead.
Lots of seemingly pointless Chinese posts in the global feed recently.
Perhaps i should consider learning Chinese
I cannot copy code snippets from messages. rather annoying :p
Hi guys, could someone please tell me how can I review projects that I like? I could not find any list showing projects I clicked like button before. Thanks for your assistance.
Hello Mehmet! On your profile page you have "View all" button in "Projects I Like & Follow" section. Here is the link: https://hackaday.io/projects/hacker/305972/likesandfollows
Thanks a lot Lutetium! Though I would advise website developers to put a link on a more visible place such as the main menu. Cheers.
I really don't like project pages, they are cluttered and there is no clear distinction between different parts (overview, logs, discussion etc.). Makes skimming difficult.
A couple of my projects do not have the "views" counter. I saw that sometimes you have to wait a couple days for this to start but it's been >2 weeks. Is there a setting to turn this on? Thanks!
I think there is a threshold of a weird number like 80 or something

Is there a section for people to request a project blog post? For example, if someone is not sure what project they should work on next, they could check a list of requests from Hackaday visitors for things the visitors would like to see on the site. Maybe the visitors could collectively donate an amount to come up with custom challenges in parallel with the Hackaday challenges.
