Unabel to delete account when authenticating over github. Please fix.
[New user] Way back in 2012 there was talk of a "lights on" switch to change to a light theme. (https://hackaday.com/2012/11/16/the-new-template-has-arrived/) Not everyone works in a dark room where the screen is the only source of illumination. My environment is fairly bright and the site is almost unusable.
I didn't see anything in the menus or profile settings to change this, but maybe I'm missing it because I literally can't see it.
I would like to see a high contrast option, are you reading more on hackaday.com or looking for a solution on hackaday.io ?
When posting a new project on hackaday.io, the image sizes used range from square (in the "my projects" gallery), to an extremely wide aspect ratio on the project page when the browser window isn't as wide. For those of us trying to present our projects in as appealing a way as possible, it's impossible to have photos that look good both in the square and widescreen formats. Something inevitably gets cropped in a frustrating way.
From a visual design standpoint this is maddening.
Hey sorry about that, we are working towards standardizing all image aspect ratios to a more friendly 4:3 size.
I finally got an email in less than an hour so was able to verify (re: @cprossu 's post below) .
Is there not a way for a creator to delete a spam comment on their project? I reported it as inappropriate, but it seems like I should be able to at least hide it. Am I missing something?
If you reported it should be removed asap, if not PM me the comment and I can take care of it.
Thank you, it's all taken care of. I just didn't know if I was missing moderator tools. Those would be a great addition to the platform!
I am running into a problem where I cannot add members to my team. It says "Something is wrong. Please try again." no matter what I try, if I clear my cache, or if I switch browsers. Not sure what's going on here, I was directed to post here for help. https://cdn.hackaday.io/images//3805111589681866033.PNG
I'll check on this, if it ends up working for you later let me know.
Nope, still having problems. I asked him if his email was verified, he did not know, and he then attempted to verify his email manually, and it did not work.
He gave me the following info to pass along to you, as he cannot provide feedback without the Email being verified.
"
The email verification flow is broken. Specifically, when I resend the invite, it is taking in excess of an hour for the email to make it to my account (I've done it on two different accounts, both of which are receiving other email without issues. I've checked spam in both. The email does show up, just really really late). The result is by the time I get the email the token has expired and I can't verify. If it helps, I tried to send the invite twice this morning at ~0700 MST. The two emails arrived at 0806 and 0839. I clicked on the 0839 email about 0845 and the token was expired.
"
Quick update, he was finally able to verify, got it all sorted for now it seems.
Add Hack Chat (https://hackaday.io/messages/room/2369) to robots.txt disallow.
As anyone who has spent anytime in Hack Chat knows, there are frequent (multiple a day) drop ins asking for help to hack this service or that. A quick check shows multiple search results for "hacking" will give hack chat in the first page. While most regulars patiently explain this isn't what hackaday is about, preventing it in the first place would be nice.
I would go as far as to suggestion, indexing the public chats at all is probably in no ones best interest.
And now I'm getting PMs asking me to help someone hack emails. Please take @morgan's advice and discourage the perception that this is a site where you come to find hackers for hire.
The authentication with Github seems like it is completely broken, when editing account clicking on `Authorize with Github` the page navigates to the main feed and does not allow changing any of the settings.
The workaround I found was to trigger a password reset via `forgot your password`. Then at least with password I was able to alter my account settings.
I have a problem with editing instructions: I can create instructions, then save it. But when I click on edit instructions, the instruction descriptions are empty and if I click on save again they are all empty. Browser checked was Chrome and Firefox.
Does anyone see this, too; or do I have to edit instructions all in one and then never edit them again ;)
This behavior should be corrected in a few minutes sorry for the inconvenience!
Weird one - I've got a kicad_pcb file that hangs during upload (add files to project) at about 20% for ages, then at about 30% then sits for ages and finally says 'this file type may not be supported'
I'll see if we can add that extension, how big is the file?
Its a standard kicad file so quite small. It's already a known extension - but this specific file seems to hang. Are you running some kind of virus checker on the uploads as they arrive that is perhaps having indigestion or is it just being weird ?
I'd have to check with operations, can you try and PM the file to me using the attach documents button?
The title tag here looks broken:
<title>Feedback - <a target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer" href="http://Hackaday.io">Hackaday.io</a> | Hackaday.io</title>
Technically both are supplyframe "products", but the blog came first and the community was meant to be an addition, iirc.
I have noticed that oftenly when you edit something (either a page, or a log or even a project description), some parts of the the text simply disappear. It just happens now when I clicked to edit this feedback.
Two bugs I just noticed while trying to update a few things:
1) Under account settings, the sidebar options (i.e. change my password) are not clickable elements, and therefore I was unable to travel to those pages.
2) Upon attempting to update my profile, I would make the changes to my bio, hit the save button at the bottom, and it would bring me back to "My Feed." When I would return to my profile, the bio would not be updated, and clicking edit my profile would reveal that my changes were not saved.
Thanks will look into this. 1.) These nav items are using javascript there might be an issue there. 2.) Editing and saving profile should return to your profile with a gold banner at the top that says "changes have been saved".
Update: I just tried updating my profile from a different device and it worked successfully. If it helps, the first device was a MacBook Pro running Chrome, and the second device was a Windows PC running Chrome as well.
Ok good to hear. Should have no problem with chrome/mac, could be a misbehaving extension?
Towards the end of the 1970's I was working for a small "custom design" contract house in Los Angeles. We did stuff for Hughes, couple of other aerospace companies, Halliburton, .... We got an RFQ from (IIRC) Rockwell to do a bubble memory tester. I read it and the data sheets for the device, and suggested that we do a "no bid" really fast.
There are enough users on here now with similar names this is becoming an issue. Room sensitive @username listings. So if you are in a room with @blah then you don't need to scroll through or guess from 10 different @blah usernames. The one which matches the people in the room you are in could show up first.
I don't immediately see a way to add video to our project's gallery. Am I just missing something obvious? Video has done so much for makers on Instagram to get their projects out into the world.
It's kind of a round-about way to do it but if you add videos to your logs, they should display automatically in the project gallery. See https://hackaday.io/project/26947/gallery#a3299677e474b5d3292ba69e54c98ff2
The edit project page is only for uploading the initial 6 or so images, all other gallery images and videos are automatically populated from the logs.
Found a bug for someone to splat. Posted a DailyMotion video link in the Chat interface for someone, but I wanted it to start at a specific time. This is done with https://www.dailymotion.com/video/[video]?start=[#/sec in you want it to start] -- except that the page preview widget strips out the question mark and everything after! Not cool, bro :(

I'm probably missing something but I don't see an easy way to find the projects that I am following on one list.
