- XY-table from mostly off-the-shelf parts (29x42cm tool area - almost A3 format)
- 3W 445nm (blue) laser diode module from dtr-lpf (able to cut 3mm black acrylic @ 0.5mm/s)
- My own design of RPi addon driver board (2xlmd18400 drivers on oshpark board)
- Software (gcode parser/executor) in Erlang (also does svg rendering of output)
Work in progress: currently making motor mounts and adjusting the smoke extraction.
The old laser decided to vanish in the mail, so I got a new one. Works great!
Now on to making motor mounts in acrylic and tinkering with the smoke extraction.
I switched g-code generator to DXF2GCODE so I had to adjust the program a bit, but it was well worth it since it produces much nicer shapes than the InkScape plugin i used previously.
Hi! I haven't, sorry. I'm a bit pressed for time and I still can't quite decide on a good fume extraction. I'll try to publish results once I do. A quick summation of the component list shown on here gives about $900 USD. So maybe $1200 with motors and driver+pi, fancy cables with drag chain and so on.
That seems interesting. Ability to cut 3mm acrylic is already quite impressive (and useful in practice for many projects I'd imagine) considering that the diode is rated at 3W.
hi mate have you tried thin plywood/particle board? Also what sort of cost did this add up to, if you don't mind me asking.
