The team at Wazombi has been working on this project for months. The idea came to us after we moved into our new offices with high ceilings and tall windows. We got blinds for our tall windows to keep out the summer sun but soon found a problem - the winder chains are built for normal sized windows. With our tall windows this meant that we had to climb on tables every time we wanted to adjust the blinds. Due to our table layout we would have had trouble reaching the chains even if they were a lot longer. So being a bunch of hardware and mobile app guys with a problem we picked the most over the top solution and decided to invent a device to solve our predicament. You may ask why not just get longer chains? Well we did it that way because .. why not? We had a BLE controlled motor driver board from another project and at first we just hooked that up. But seeing people impressed by our solution gave us the idea to take this thing further. We had a semi-successful Indiegogo campaign and we'll be shipping the first batches of RISE in March.
The problem is that any mechanical button will need changes to the enclosure and that is much more difficult and time consuming to prototype. We are going to have the plastic shells made with injection molding and we have very little experience with that process. I'm a bit worried about the tolerances of the process and how that will affect our mechanical button. The touch thing was a nice idea and may yet be implemented in a future version just not now and not like this.
