I made a simple pen holder out of brass strips, it is a parallelogram with plastic washers as bearings. A tension spring is used to ensure the pen has always contact with the paper, and a mini-servo is used to lift and lower the pen.

While working okayish, unfortunately this design is very wobbly, so I'm making a version 2 based on miniature linear railing.
