Inspired by Mel Chin who I had the opportunity to hear speak at a symposium on the artist's role in society about 15 years ago, an article I read online last year about an abandoned mall in Bangkok full of koi fish, earthship concepts, a fascination with abandoned buildings, the ever growing number of abandoned shopping centers worldwide and Hackaday's challenge.

Focusing on the issue of growing, storing and transporting food to feed the global community - I propose a plan to convert these former consumption centers into production centers.

Abandoned shopping malls present an opportunity for indoor hydroponic, aquaponic, farmer's market's, etc.

Typically located in optimal community locations, with an average of about 150 stores to a center and an existing infrastructure; these spaces could be readily converted through partnerships with city planners, community food organizations and makers.
