Well I have had a great time building these modular tracks. Learning and developing the method for making these has be very interesting. So interesting that I spiraled away from building a tracked robot, and spent months 3d printing designs, making silicone molds, casting parts, getting custom pins and roller chain parts and recently making aluminum molds. Sometimes I get distracted building things and forget the reason I started building the project.
But now that I am turning out tracks fairly quickly I needed a good way to test them out. All the evidence points to these tracks working great. They are strong and tough. The rubber provides a ton of grip as well. But until I get these on a robot and start driving over anything and everything, I wont know for sure.
MakerFaire is coming up next month in Pittsburgh Pa, my home town. So I figured I should build a awesome tank robot. I took apart two cordless drills, and pulled the battery, transmitter and receiver from my RC truggy. A friend had a SaberTooth DC motor controller. I traded him some help on his R2D2 robot for the motor controller. I decided to laser cut the frame from clear 3/8" acrylic. I know it is not the toughest material, but man does it look awesome. haha. For a demo robot is is turning out nice.

This is great. Looking forward to seeing the finished 'bot, and the track in operation. Definitely a needed product for many people!
