If you need to connect the diagnostic port up to RS-232, there's an adapter board design you can use. You can select whether the transmit pin is the diagnostic output or the GPS NMEA output. Received data is connected to GPS. The PPS output is connected to DCD and is configured so that DCD asserts on-time.
