Rosace

Persistance of vision mill. Or a 2m diameter RGB rotating screen.

Fred Sapey-Trimphe builds persistence of vision mils since 2009, called SPIM or e-Rosace.

Since 2013, the Rosace displays actual color videos at 15fps with a Raspberry Pi for storage and rotation computations, hooked to a FPGA for the tight real time signals and angle interpolation.

  • It's getting out of hand

The new controller system now looks like this :

I hope it's enough because there is no room left now :-D

  • Rosace v1.5

    Yann Guidon / YGDES06/15/2017 at 22:44 0 comments

A new version of the Rosace is being developed, hopefully for an exhibition in September.

    The upgrade is significant :

    • 25 fps instead of 15
    • 200 LED diameter (instead of 120)
    • Faster, synchronous (2-wires) LED strips
    • RPi 3B+ instead of Pi B (v1.2 from 4 years ago)
    • Introducing the 3RGB (de)compression algorithms (see #3RGB image lossless compression format)
    • simplified auxiliary circuits in FPGA
    • Multi-threaded programming (yeah! 4 cores!)

So it's a significant evolution but not a revolution, yet...

    Stay tuned !
