In order to be a worthwhile device to log any sort of data, it will need a few properties:
1. Data storage (EEPROM or µSD)
2. Power Management (Battery and/or solar)
3. RTC for timestamping
In an effort to make it easy/cheap to fabricate:
1. Limit to 4 layers (preferably 2)
2. No custom parts (except PCB)
3. Limit the number of very small parts (eg 0402 components).
In an effort to make environmentally safe:
1. Use only RoHS components/techniques
2. No lead/halides or other dangerous chemicals
Still working out some of the details for the circuit. Currently working out the best way to get the data off of EEPROM (if I go that route). I'm inclined to use EEPROM over uSD simply because the I2C interface on the Tiny allows me to operate a few other things (such as power management).
Any thoughts?
Doing a few things at the moment:
1. Prototyping what I can (which is limited since I don't have a working ATtiny, just an Arduino).
2. Reconsidering the DC power jack in favour of a voltage regulator and a couple pins; the power jack takes up a LOT of real estate.
3. Looking through SparkFun and DigiKey to order some parts.
