I had posted this to HaD in June 2013, but I thought I'd post the photos in full size.
The idea came to me as I was staring at a pile of jumpers I pulled out of some eWaste. You can use the jumpers on male headers to allow you to plug in male jumper wires. If you have colored jumpers you can use them to color-code the pins, too.
