Got kind of lucky with the wifi adapter. Didnt really do much research other than search for a wifi raspberry pi adapter on amazon and check the reviews. After looking into this a bit seems there are some that don't work or require some extra steps.

Rasberry PI 3 Wifi Access Point using Wifi Access
I just wanted to see if I could figure it out, wasn't too difficult. Also used a hidden network, will do a regular one later on.
