In short, this device will automate the traditional passenger counting system.
Image processing will be used via a camera to detect people and count the number of passengers, i.e, on trains/buses.
Later, face detection and temperature reading with infrared would be added as new features.
This can be used for:
- Monitoring the density of passengers inside public transportation
- Real-time counting
- Collecting information regarding when people gets in or out during their journey
The future visions:
- Face emotion identification to early detect if there's some random "bad guys"
- CCTV's infrared to detect human body's temperatures and give alert if there is an emergency situation
- To improve the tracking feature, combined with GPS, the device will also collect information regarding where people gets in or out

In short, we're trying to detect face and its features, even if the person shook his/her head.
I also happened to know another algorithm called Viola-Jones, but as long as I know, it can only detect if the face is straight ahead to the camera and won't work when the person shook their head.

my company at the public transportation is very concern about passenger. if the passenger pay to the bus crew and the bus crew doesn't deposit with the real number of passenger to the cashier it will be loss for company. and that is the real problem until now.
How cool are you about sharing the data-set? I'm currently working on a machine learning approach to counting cars in parking lots. I'd like to see how well my algorithm can generalize to people counting..
We're still not sure, since identifying several faces from distance (i.e from CCTV inside a bus full of people) will not be easy. But we're working towards it!
