The analysis of human waste can be very insightful about the health and well-being of an individual and societal scale. An individual’s faeces gives great insight to the state of their digestive system. Similarly the components of urine can indicate a number of factors about an individual not just from renal function, but also about hydration and muscle metabolism indicating activity.
The Smart Toilet for Telehealth has been inspired by the Reinvent the Toilet Challenge set out by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation that aims to proved toilets to the 2.4 billion people in the world that have inadequate sanitation.
The roadmap for the Smart Toilet for Telehealth looks to compile simple data of frequency of visits and volumes of faeces and urine to indicate whether people have diarrhoea. Progressing forward, more complex sensors can be integrated to diagnose more accurately, even infer particular parasites or conditions.
