Haveing bought a new VW Golf V a few years back I wanted to add a tow bar but the cost of the trailer wireing was more than the cost of the tow bar. In the past with mechanical switches for brakes and blinkers the simple thing to do was to just wire the trailer lights in parallel with the existing tail lights and all was well but modern computer contorled lighting systms dont like the extra load and throw up errors which is all an unpleasent experience. So I have designed this circuit to connect in parallell with the existing tail lights and provide opto isolation to and have the trailer lights switched via mosfets - the mosfetdriver I have chosen allows for over currentprotection on each channel as well.
I built this circuit some time ago and now nolonger have the car and dont have any photos of the completed project but I will present here the circuits and board layout and as much of it as can remember
