The system uses modified RPi cameras with a M12 or CS lenses to give images of a resonable quality of object from with a size of a few mm down to about 20 µm.
The whole idea started when I was playing with Mathematica on the Pi for image analysis. A local shop ordered some WaveShare RPi cameras with M12 lenses.
It tured out that, while not perfect, the incorporated lenses would allow to use the camera for documentation of rather small objects.
As a next step, a frame for the camera was constructed using LEGO parts from my son's collection. Then, undergoing several iteration steps, an optimized and easy to assemble version made from laser-cut acrylic parts was constructed.
