This wonderful little liability somehow manages to perfectly partner being useful with just the right amount of unnecessary danger. As of now it consists of a 3 rpm microwave turntable motor, my "Sonic Boom" alarm clock (which is too loud to play inside of a dorm), and a circuit that flattens out the pulsing signal from the alarm clock and uses it to activate a relay.
Now you may be thinking that running 120v ac through cardboard is a bad idea, and you would be right. The problem is I am running out of solutions that keep my roommate's sanity in check. Thankfully, I made sure to be very meticulous with my wire connections (I would have soldered but my iron was out of commission at the time).
As for any problems with possible capacitive coupling between the wall lines and the metal casing of the winch, I made sure to properly ground the device in a multitude of ways.
And for the rest of the circuit.... I'd prefer not to say. It is made out of pegboard and many, many broken attempts. It honestly is almost embarrassingly made since I had other things going on at the time and couldn't spend much time on it.
Right now the project is in a weird limbo. I know how to finish it, but I need to find the time to dismantle the whole project and put it back together. In the mean time I will make sure to appreciate the lack of terror I will most likely experience as I am forcefully dragged out of my bed while only semi-conscious.
You are doing your project very well. I really like your project, I am also working on a similar project. I just wanted to let you know that you can see(https://winchinsider.com/how-to-mount-a-winch-in-truck-bed/) my project which may be helpful for you.
