I got an X1 micromill with my lathe in a craiglist deal. I decided to pull off the hand wheels and install some stepper motors with some cheap stepper motor drivers. The goal was to just see how well it worked, and if it worked, then I would use the CNC to make some better parts. Well it worked, it was pretty good, and I have just keep it with the original design. It is absolutely awesome and enables to create some awesome stuff.

It runs off of EMC2 which I highly recommend.
