Moving to BME680
07/26/2019 at 04:24 • 0 commentsI wasn't satisfied with the Enviro pHat:
- It had no humidity sensor, which would be nice to have for air quality measurements
- It had a light sensor, which is not great for privacy perspective: the recorder is installed in a communal space, and the light sensor could be used to tell if someone is there or not.
Pimoroni just launched a new Enviro+ pHat, same format but with more sensors. It had a humidity sensor (great!) and other interesting sensing equipment, but also a microphone, which would be a big no-no privacy-wise.
I tried instead a BME680 breakout, with a pinout directly compatible with a Raspberry Pi. I still had to deport the sensor, otherwise the heat of the Pi would significantly bias the measurements (+5°C bias in my case).
