Coronavirus PAPR Hood

An easy to build a low-cost PPE hood

Hi everyone. I have built this hood designed for Healthcare workers in mind. I based on the design of 3Ms PPE hood helmets, but in my case, this is a softshell version using an already open source 3d printed face shield as the base ( https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4204061 ). The hood is a simple 3 piece sewn design with an elastic band sewn around. A thin piece of transparent plastic is sewn on the front. The system does not have to be airtight, for clean, filtered air is pumped in from the tubular section of the hood near the back. This is to maintain positive pressure at all times, so the hood is at all times blowing out clean air to keep airborne pathogens out. By keeping the design to work on positive pressure, it makes it easier to manufacture due to the simple design. There is

Currently I only have the proof of concept and am working with a team to develop the system. If you have any suggestions please shoot me a message. The overall project may seem pretty primitive for now, but I am getting very good tips from Engineers and Front Line doctors.

Hi everyone! Sorry for the oversue update! I have been working late everyday constantly iterating on the hood design. Currently it is V2.2! It looks just like the ones they sell! It ia also made of Tyvek now. I can't wait ti ship these to some docotors who want to checm it out before it will be produced. This would've never been possible without the feedback of the team at 1 Million Ventillators, Front line medical workers, and my parents! I am so happy with V2.2! It is simplier, has higher visibility, easier to build, quicker to build, very comfortable, and has a better seal! In other words better then any of the balloon like horrible deisgns :p

I am very happy to be a part of the "Helpful Engineering" and "1 Million Ventilators" both amazing projects to help with Covid 19. I am on the PAPR hood R and D. Currently I have been sourcing a lot to information to continue onto V2. V2 will be tyvek and much more simpler to build. I am working on the patterns ASAP

I'm happy to hear that I may get a lot of knowledge from this initiative and use it to my own project,  Buy Miracle Smile.

While there are plenty of nice box and other cartridge filters, you can make a filter by sewing a cone of filtercloth, and sleeving it inside a straight tube (of tyvek) , blowing air from the wide end. This arrangement is light, soft, and all sewn construction. [Before the lockdown I made sure to buy 5m of high performance filter cloth. There was a warehouse full of rolls of the stuff]

Yes I have looked into it. Thinking of modifying N95 masks. With a blower the mask life will be lengthened significantly
