Flatiron Face Shield

Description

Designed to be mass produced to meet demands of the COVID-19 epidemic. After half a dozen prototypes and working with local ER Physicians in Colorado, this is the revised version of the ABV4 and Konrad Klepacki and Mateusz Dyrda's ver 2.1 with the better locking tabs. The design is maximized for laser cutting efficiency on a 4'x8' sheet here in the US with common line cutting and yields 31 face shields per sheet with zero 3D printing.

Meant for .020" or .030" PETG but will probably work in a few other thicknesses as well.

A ~6-7" x 1" or 1 1/2" foam strip on the headband is ideal. Small amounts can be bought here:

This design is meant to be used with a 7" x 1/8" rubber band on the back, which are easily sourced in large quantities (unlike elastic band). The shield is so light it take very little pressure to hold it on the head, and the rubber band is quite comfortable. It can be placed in two different locations for smaller (child) sized heads to bigger heads. That said, there is a 'flap' on each side of the shield that can accept elastic or cord ends, or even a single 3 1/2" rubber band cut in half. When using the flaps, slightly thicker/wider material tends to work better (although it will hold a single 1/4" rubber band end).

Hello. I have 3D printed some faces shields... Before I donate them is it okay to just make sure they are quarantined for 3-days since that is the max time the virus can survive on plastic?

Check with where you are donating them to for their preference. They will likely sterilize them with alcohol wipes or some other means. My process for here in Colorado - wash hands, put on all ppe, using a spray bottle mist each shield with isopropyl alcohol before putting into a clean box.

Great work - Do you think you could create an efficient, nested arrangement for a laser cutter with maximum 600x900 cutting size? We are cutting down 4x8 sheets of .030 PETG to fit our bed, so smaller would also work but this is the largest laser we've got. Common line cutting is ok.

Separating headbands from shields is also acceptable if it helps...

Hello, I have updated files for the 600mm x 900mm sheet. Looks like if you separate bands from shields you can squeeze 5 shields on one sheet, and up to 47 bands on a separate sheet.
