I assume that what you have is just a demo for the software or a proof-of-concept, because such systems are already in widespread use, at least here. At a fully equipped car park, I can drive in, have my number plate scanned, find a place with the help of signs indicating number of places at each row, as every car space has a sensor and an occupancy light that can be seen from afar. When I leave, if I am within the free period, the boom gate will let me out, or I can pay by tapping my card at the NFC scanner, or if I am registered in the system, my card can be automatically charged. Members can also have extra parking time. You can even install an app on your phone that warns you when your free period is about to expire.

Although it's a kind of IoT system, the OS used is really only a small part of the system, and it's really just a high-availability IT system connected to lots of wiring and sensors. Not cheap but repays in customer satisfaction.

There are still many paper ticket systems with self-serve payment, but I think eventually these contactless systems will replace those, especially in these times.
