They just don't seem interested in becoming froglets
08/19/2020 at 21:54 • 0 commentsThey're all still tadpoles. Most of them still seem to be enjoying the tadpole life just fine. Some unfortunate news, the smaller of the two remaining Musketeers has fallen ill. I've compositely swapped out the jar and gave the little fella some additional time outdoors. It's my hope that he'll recover. An interesting observation is that the Two Amigos seem to overall be in the best of shape. I don't know if that has anything to do with me taking them outdoors more often for photos and videos.

They're still growing
08/11/2020 at 19:15 • 0 commentsThey're continuing to grow, still not seeing any rear legs yet. They certainly are in no rush to become froglets. Some sad news to report though. On Sunday, the smallest of the Three Musketeers passed away.
First image is of the 4th Amigo and the second is of one of the Two Amigos.
And of course the obligatory video clips:

Found out what they are for sure
08/06/2020 at 21:45 • 0 commentsI noticed things such as the class members lacking the wide tails that I remembered my green tree frog tadpoles having. I researched further and found out that they're actually eastern narrow-mouthed toad tadpoles. Everybody seems to be doing well. I did get a new animal container for whenever they decide to become froglets (they still seem like they are taking their time.)
Below in an image and video of the Two Amigos:

Uninvited guests appear in the Three Musketeers' jar
07/28/2020 at 22:43 • 0 commentsTwo days or so ago a mosquito got into the house. Later on, I noticed that it must have deposited some mosquito eggs in the Three Musketeers' jar. In the photo below just to the left of of the Three Musketeers themselves, you can spot a mosquito larvae. I'll need to evict those uninvited guests. I also did a water changing in all three jars later in the day.
Below are two clips of the Two Amigos:

They might be showing early signs of back leg development, hard to tell though
07/23/2020 at 21:58 • 0 commentsThey're still growing. They're all now a little bit over 4 weeks old. Once again the Two Amigos weren't too camera shy (tried doing a recording of the Three Musketeers, but they decided to just hide in the debris on the bottom.) Fun little story. When I was doing a water change on the Two Amigos' jar, they seemed to enjoy the current created by pouring in the replacement water. They didn't really try to swim away and allowed themselves to go with the flow. I've been noticing what appears to be Algae build-up on the sides of all of the jars, which is a bit annoying. I've managed to clean some of it off during water changes.

Finally named the Jar of two and the Jar of three
07/21/2020 at 23:05 • 0 commentsThey're still doing well and continuing to grow. I've named the Jar of two the Two Amigos and the Jar of three the Three Musketeers. Not exactly the most creative names, but they deserved some sort of name at least. I'm starting to think they're intentionally holding off becoming froglets as they're enjoying this being taken care of and fed thing.

A slightly off-topic post today (examining the tadpole water)
07/17/2020 at 20:44 • 0 commentsInspired by the HaD by Bill Herd a week or two ago, I pulled out my cheap toyish microscope that I've had for ages and decided to exclaim the tadpole water for any organisms. Note: I really need to get a microscope with an actual camera vs having to hold up a phone to the lens to take photos. Here is some of the better images below:
This post has been brought to you by the bug below(don't know exactly what it is):

Still growing
07/16/2020 at 21:14 • 0 commentsThey're still growing, still not seeing much in the way of rear leg development yet. I did some more water changes yesterday. I'll likely make some more Romaine lettuce mush tomorrow.

All still going well
07/13/2020 at 21:02 • 0 commentsNot too much to report. Everyone appears to still be doing well and continue to grow, still at a considerably slower pace than the older members. They're all still fairly calm compared to how the older members were.

Yup, I'm really thinking these are very likely not Eastern Spadefoot tadpoles
07/09/2020 at 15:43 • 0 commentsThe rest of the class seems to be in no rush to grow up, and that's fine by me. The younger members are now around the age the older ones which were getting their front legs out, and I see little to nothing indicating back legs are forming yet. These guys might be Green Tree Frog tadpoles.
The 4th Amigo decided to wear a leaf hat(and a short video clip of it):
I also did some more videos. I knocked down the FPS to 30, allowing more light per frame. Video is a bit less smooth but you can see the tadpoles better.
First clip is of the 4th Amigo. If you watch closely you can see small particles going into his mouth so while it appears that he's just doing nothing, he's apparently eating. Second clip is some of the other class members.
