a few bits improved
07/21/2014 at 22:20 • 1 commentSo, this is the status at the moment. Things I updated:
- purchased a joystick to replace the crappy gamepad with
- electric height adjustment works (added linear potentiometer and software)
- mounted bumper properly
Video footage in rather embarrassing english:
Sorry for the low quality picture as well as audio (filmed with phone in garage due to darkness and wetness outdoors).
Next things on the ToDo-list:
- recraft the bumper from aluminium, since this hobby-glass-thingy just isn't the real deal
- Continue with battery pack (need to find some spring loaded contacts wich can handle 30 amps)
- Build proper (less noisy and vibrating) mowing plates (although I yet lack a good idea on this)

A thought on safety
07/09/2014 at 23:37 • 3 commentsAs sharp blades rotating at a couple thousand RPM can cause serious damage to things, it might be a clever idea to implement some safety features. So I built this:
The level of the blades is above the screews ends, so things should hit the screws first. Apart from the foolish mounting it seems to work quite fine.
It also has switches to sense hitting on something, although they are not connected yet. Only problem now is, that on high grass the cover tilts towards the front and the screws get stuck (towards the end of the video). But I hope that a proper mounting will stop that (although I have no good idea yet on how to build one, since it must move forwards/backwards and to the sides. Maybe a visit at the local hardware store will tickle my inspiration)

A mowing test
