Description

This scanner can scan small objects with fantastic accuracy. Its the "Mark 2" of my last Hackaday project, its slower because it requires several images, but it way more accurate.

The key components are now:
a). 2 cameras and 2 pies to make a stereo camera.
b). A projector to add structured light patterns to help the triangulation from the stereo camera.
c). A 2 axis turntable.
d). Custom written software to blend all the different views from the turntable together.
e). A huge amount of accuracy optimisation. Also careful use of memory so the high resolution uses the minimum RAM, and speed optimisations such as synchronising the cameras.

Its well calibrated too so the CAD files it produces are at precisely real world size.

Finally I'm proud of it now, so I've decided to launch it on Kickstarter to see if anyone would like one.

Hello, I am keen to support your project, it looks very pomising. But if I get one of your 1st series models on kickstarter, will I be able to use it for further development and improvement or is it a "black box", especially softwaresided?

Thanks.  The software with the Kickstarter package is a black box.  May I ask what modifications you had in mind?  Would it help to publish the usb communication protocol? That would allow you to control all the hardware, for example; operate the turntable, get syncronised image capture from the cameras, with your own choice of projected image sequence.
