Since I set this up it has been dominated by pigeons. Almost all birds like shelled peanuts, and since pigeons gulp them down whole they have been the primary customers of the vending feeder. The feeder was half full and I filled the rest with cat food - small dry kibble. It has mixed with the peanuts and gets dispensed most of the time.
The pigeons will occasionally eat it but do not like it and prefer peanuts, so they show up less often. The jackdaws love it even more than peanuts and have started to regularly visit the feeder. Hopefully this means I can start to make progress with the neighborhood corvids.
Pigeons quickly picked up how to get food from the feeder, but only with objects I provided. They never worked out that they could bring their own. I'm not sure they will ever progress beyond this stage. There are plenty of jackdaws and some magpies and crows in the neighborhood, so hopefully the cat food will draw them in so I can try to make progress with them using the feeder.

Pigeons have learned that if the feeder gives them cat food, they can drop the cat food in the hole and maybe get a peanut. So I'm back to using peanuts.
