Greg you know that magicians are not supposed to reveal their secrets right?
Hi Michael!
Uh Oh, now I'm in even more trouble...
:)

Well at least "Make" liked it: https://boingboing.net/2022/05/25/you-can-build-one-of-these-perpetual-motion-machines-and-amaze-your-friends.html. I guess I'm out of here. :(
Cool. Mark is a great guy. He has posted a number of my projects to BoingBoing and interviewed me once for his news letter.

Hi Michael!
Boy, you're just about the only one interested in my designs anymore , I used to spur more interest here!
Anyway, the answer to your question is I use an infrared emitter / receiver sense the ball bearing. When detected, a small coil is energized with a single pulse from a circuit I designed to provide enough attraction to send the ball bearing up the hill, where it coasts down to the sensor again.
Thanks for your interest!
Greg
