1Install a monitor to be monitored
You will need a PumpSaver® device to monitor. Though you can do this yourself, this is your water source that you are messing with, and a goof-up could result in a very expensive repair bill. There are also high voltages present. Most pumps, even off-grid pumps, run on 240 VAC.
Just contact your regular well service provider for this step.

2Picking up the pieces
Part Substitutions
- Z8F0822, can be used in place of the Z8F0812
- HC-05 is optional. Also, the HC-06 should work with no changes to the layout or code
- Nearly any 3.3V low dropout regulator can be used
- Just about any phototransistor should work
- The same goes for the 3906, pick a PNP and adjust the base bias current
The resistors can be most any type, and 5% would probably work just fine. As readily available as 1% resistors are, you might as well use them. However, size matters. Trying to place a 1206(US) part on a 0805(US) footprint is no fun.
All of the capactiors are tasked with filtering duty, so a +80/-20 type would serve. For the largest capacitors, I chose dry tantalum, instead of electrolytic, for longevity.

3Enter OSHPark
Though I began making my own boards in the late 1970's, KiCAD+OSHPark is a game changer, if you ask me. For me, it wasn't the tape and dry transfers, or even the ferric chloride, but the drilling that was the biggest nuisance. It all goes away with a few mouse clicks.

4The build
Toaster oven reflow would be nice, but not necessary, even if you plan to build all three. Hand soldering this board usually takes me about 45 minutes. If you elect to hand solder, all I can recommend is that you start with the oscillator and install the phototransistor and beeper last.

5Flash the firmware
This step is likely to be the most complex in the build. You'll likely need a USB to serial converter, a solderless breadboard, a 5V power supply, a 3.3 volt regulator and a few diodes, resistors and capacitors. (more to come...)

6Closing up
The enclosure is a simple affair, 7 to 11 holes of various sizes and one slot. My builds have used magnets to hold the WellWell device in place on the PumpSaver's® enclosure. A CAD drawing will appear, someday.

7Yet another app?
Skip this step if you have built the device without the HC-05. You can side-load my signed APK from here, or do the build yourself. If you want to build yourself, a Debian system would be a good starting point.
