idea #1: create a mini speed game in order to be able to accelerate. Our initial idea was to use a buzz wire game. The faster you complete the circuit without touching the wire the faster the car goes, if you touch the wire the car slowly stops. 

We made a shitty cardboard prototype and realized we couldn't complete the buzz wire game fast enough for the car to accelerate.
