2018.12.04: Long overdue update
12/04/2018 at 07:33 • 0 commentsThe project is not dead. I had to set it aside to move and change jobs. I've been working on tangential issues on the ESP32 and the ATECC508, but nothing glove-specific since finishing the data pipeline and CPLD.
I've fixed some dead links in this page, and have been working issues related to host relationship and protocol. Since the last update, the hardware repository has been reorganized to better support change tracking and also to reflect the fact that the composition is now modular.
Here is the test jig populated with a power supply and an ESP32 compute module.
Most of the hangup right now is that I need to either learn how to do injection molding, or hire someone to design me a mold for the silicone parts.

Thanks, OshPark!
05/29/2017 at 07:28 • 1 comment@oshpark: This is the finest feature I've ever run through you guys. Great work! U8 pad diameter is 250 microns.
And thanks for the bonus Teensy boards, as well. :-)
After a few hours of hot-plating, the boards check-out good. Full unit with 19650 for scale. -

2017.02.18: r2 PCBs have arrived

More to come as I implement SPI slave capabilities on the ESP32. -
2017.01.21: KiCAD template is now open
01/21/2017 at 09:09 • 0 commentsWith r2 having recently gone to the fabricator, I had to roll a new debugging harness. While I was at it, I exported the key materials into a template project for the sake of those who want to supply their own design.
This PCB rides underneath the sensor board and breaks out to a breadboard-friendly header. The 10-pin header off on the side is the JTAG port.

2016.10.19: Final digit layout
10/19/2016 at 07:18 • 0 commentsFabricator is ready to roll with the flex circuits, after a looooong game of ping-pong and a few re-work cycles. Getting things right in such tight constraints was not a trivial task. And after more than a year of refinement, the digits should be landing on my bench around this time next month. I think I've pulled it off. The blue circle is a US dime.
This layout will accommodate either of two strategies I have for eliminating the preferential flex plane of the flex circuit. Construction is 4-layer polyimide. The dense nodes will be FR-4, giving the components a rigid mounting plane (durability-enhancement).
The CPLD is ready to accept the digits, and the software is ready to validate them.
I now have one month to be ready to cast them in silicone. So I'll be blendering.
