The purpose of this experiment was to determine the strongest piping material in terms of its stress resistance to hydraulic pressure, i.e fluid flow, under non constant internal pressure, thereby providing an objective and accurate analysis of different piping materials that reflects reality. Each pipe's failure pressure was established through the utilization of what is known as a quick burst test. From the quick burst test results, a modification of Barlow’s formula was employed in order to measure the hoop stress of each pipe, the pipe’s resistance to hydraulic pressure. It was hypothesized that if the hoop stress of various pipes was calculated using a quick burst test and a modification of Barlow’s formula, then steel would have the greatest hoop stress and would thereby be the most resistant to hydraulic pressure. The results validated the hypothesis.
