PCB version 1

A project log for RC radial engine glow plug heater

RC motors are often difficult to start... An engine spark plug heater may be needed!

PCB

I have designed a nice and compact PCB allowing to fit into an RC plane cockpit.

The PCB was kindly sponsored by PCBWay and is as usual of excellent quality.

You can order it here: PCBWay shared project. It's cheap, delivered very fast and so professional looking!

You may notice that the footprint for the TP22996 are SOIC with a pitch of .3mm. They are very tiny and may require some skills to be properly soldered.

And here is the "unboxing" of the PCB and the stencil for solder paste reflow :

I must say that teh stencil packaging is "impressive" fully enclosed into a strong aluminium frame. Very professionnal

Soldering the tiny "inhuman" chips wasn't an easy task... But it's all done and no shorts are detected !

Here is a close up of the tricky parts...

To give you a better idea here is the footprint from the datasheet ! (0.33mm inter pins)

As mentionned eearlier, although electricaly speaking, this PCB worked, it had many drawbacks :

very difficult to solder

powered by a 1.2V NiCd battery, any contact inuced a drop of the voltage... enough to dim the sparks when many were powered together.

Tis is the reason why I do not recommend this version 1 !
