• The sensor

This project is still in my back log, I need to finish the Pelicam menu system for Raspbery Pi DIY cameras and then make another camera... because the recent green one JDC34 has problems with the flange not being "permanently" adjustable.

But I was scrolling through my random article news feed on my Android phone (swipe all the way left home screen).

And I saw Hackaday write about this sensor:

Which in the past I had used its cousin (?) the VL53L0X which is just a single beam/wide angle sensor.

This looks, I could definitely mount that on an arm along with a camera, they are a bit pricey but makes sense around $25 each.

I'll buy a couple today because I know I can use at least 2. My insect robot used two single-point lidars/ToF sensors, a long and short range (VL53L0X and TF-mini).

Actually I'll buy 5 get a discount. It's like the accelerometer breakout boards, always good to have multiple on hand.

For a camera this will use the V3 module standard since it has an electronic aperture

So... life kinda hit me (poor) so I've been working a lot... and have not made anything in a few months.

But now... I have a better job and I should have more funds and free time.

I'm feeling the itch to get back in.

This is a project that I've been thinking about.

My plants I water them every 4 days. I use my Twilio SMS account bot that I made 4 years ago, this thing runs my life.

Anyway... I also have this vision of an overhead garden thing which I do have a project about, but it's watching things grow. I need to move out and not have a garden in my closet but that's a future goal too.

This one would be cool, some platform will hold up an arm, it carries a water tube around and then it pumps the water to the plants. Having some kind of depth mapping paired with vision would be neat.

It's ambitious and a time sink, perfect.
