1Step 1
Start by taking the Storage box and measuring five inches up from the bottom on the two longest sides. And lay out a grid of 1" holes. We placed two on each of the extrusions, one each on the two smaller flat parts, and three in the middle. Drill them out with a hole saw, and clean up any left over plastic.
-
2Step 2
Next mark put the holes to mount the brackets to hold the internal plumbing. We used the two outer most extrusions and made a little template to mark them. Drill these out with a holes suitable to fit your mounting screws. You should have four mounting points in total.
-
3Step 3
In the top of the lid mark out and cut two 4" diameter holes to mount the fans in.
-
4Step 4
Setting the container aside lets construct our plumbing. Measure out three pieces of 20"x3/4" PVC Plumbing and cut them. Next measure out four 4" pieces of PVC and cut them. Also cut four 2" pieces of PVC to use as Standoffs, these can be 1/2" or 3/4" PVC.
-
5Step 5
Take one of the 20" pieces and measure in 9 3/4" from either side. Cute out the middle section.
-
6Step 6
Next assemble them in a rectangler grid with an extra piece running down the middle. Glue them as you go a long using PVC cement. Place the two shorter long sides on the outside of the rectangle and put a T connector to join them facing down. Also connector a short piece 4" piece of PVC with a 90° threaded elbow. Screw in a threaded 3/8" barbed connector. This is where you will connect the water supply from the pump.
-
7Step 7
Next mark off an grid of holes on your assembled PVC rectangle, and drill them out. We used drip irrigation bubblers in these holes to help evenly distrubute the water on the filter matterial.
-
8Step 8
Next using long 2 1/2" machine screws and washers mount the grid in side of the storage container. Use the 2" pieces as standoffs to help center it inside of the storage container.
-
9Step 9
Next connect the pump to the T connector that faces down using some clear PVC tubing.
-
10Step 10
Lastly fill the inside of it with filter material. Optionally you can make a small stand to hold some of the filter material out of the way so you have space for the pump and your water reservoir.
