After the motor controllers failing 2 weeks before EMF camp things weren't looking too good. But, I managed to find a UK source of the VESC 75100 controllers (at £88 each!) and get them delivered with a couple of days to spare.
With these fitted and the new, larger track sprockets (seen here with the old silver one for comparison)

everything looked OK and off to EMF camp I went.
As usual , we had an amazing time and TrakTrike worked perfectly. Mission accomplished........
In 2025 I took TrakTrike to WHY 2025 in the Netherlands.....and it failed on the first day. Both motor controllers failed. I managed to disassemble it and get the site guys with a vehicle to take the parts back to my car.
Some of the Hacky Racers guys were there and having a chat with them, they recommended 'any BDLC controller on Aliexpress for over £30'.
So I bought a couple of 2kW units and fitted them. I got rid of all the dual channel electronics that I'd spent so much time with and just wired the throttle straight into both controllers.
Now it's working....but, the slow speed on these controllers is notoriously bad. Even a slight twist of the throttle sets you off at a pace unacceptable for maneuvering.
So this is the end of the TrakTrike project for now. For EMF camp 2026 I'm going to make a DAC based unit to give me finer control of the Aliexpress controllers. There will be ramping and acceleration profiles which should make things a lot more controllable. Keep an eye on my project page.
