I've printed a split version of the faceplate in natural PLA on my small printer, then glued it together to get a rough idea of the look and fit. I also tested how the code worked with the lights. Despite how rough it looks, I'm pleased with the result. I just need to figure out a simple reliable way to attach the faceplate. I may just use double sided tape for a first try. I also need to tune the parameters in my code so the lights seem more responsive.

Yes. It works well as a light diffuser. I'll be trying different transluent filaments. I'll probably need a material than is a bit more robust than PLA to hold up to city skating. I also want to try the chemcast opti-k black acrylic as a faceplate at some point.
