Read through the write-up below, or watch the video to see how this piano key holder works!

Project Write-Up

The project started by machining the cherry base on my Shapeoko 5 Pro CNC machine.

After that, I machined the latching mechanisms from sheet acetal and assembled them with metal dowels and standoffs. The mechanism is quite intricate so I would recommend watching the video if you want to understand how it works! Some things are difficult to convey in words and pictures...

After this, I made the white piano notes from a lovely piece of maple, and it was starting to look like an actual piano!

Next was the set of little hooks that pop out the bottom - this is where the brass machining came in!

With those hooks fitted to the mechanisms, it was really starting to take shape.

As a finishing touch, I carved the name of my YouTube channel, Inventive Robin, on to the lid.

It was finally ready to hang on the wall!

And to finish the write-up, here is me looking very pleased with the finished project.

Thanks for showing interest in this project! I would love to hear your thoughts and comments on the design, mechanism and how it could be improved.
