1Gather Components
Prepare the required hardware components:
- ESP32 Development Board
- Railway Signal Modules
- Servo Motors or Track Switch Actuators
- Power Supply
- Connecting Wires
- Breadboard or PCB
- Optional Train Detection Sensors
-
2Assemble the Hardware
Connect the railway signal modules and track switching mechanisms to the ESP32 GPIO pins. Ensure all components share a common ground connection and receive appropriate power.
-
3Upload the Firmware
Install the Arduino IDE and ESP32 board package. Upload the control firmware to the ESP32 using a USB connection. Verify that the board initializes correctly after programming.
-
4Configure Signal Logic
Define the railway routes and signal states within the firmware. Assign specific GPIO pins to each signal and switching mechanism according to your layout requirements.
-
5Test Individual Components
Test each signal and track switch separately to confirm proper operation. Check wiring connections and power levels if any component does not respond as expected.
-
6Perform System Testing
Run multiple routing scenarios to ensure signals and track switches operate correctly. Verify that route selection updates the corresponding signal indications and switching positions.
-
7Final Deployment
Install the controller on the model railway layout and perform extended testing. The system is now ready for automated railway control and future feature expansion.
