The 3d print is getting there. One thing I forgot to play around with was removing the ground glass screen altogether. Then the design could work similar to the prism viewfinders.
The focusing lens mount is visible because the CCD camera lens is just a bit too wide. At least the image looks generally in focus and I can make out the crosshairs.
The wall thickness on the 3d print ended up being ok. It's still thin and I'll increase it for the next print but another problem arose as I set everything up.
In my attempt to decrease the overall height of the viewfinder I forgot that the ground glass on the camera has a minimum distance to avoid vignetting. It's called a 'waist level viewfinder' for a reason :) and I had the CCD lens way too close.
The viewfinder walls are too thin unless the part is printed on something like a formlabs machine. I've already adjusted the model and will see how the existing part turns out but I'm assuming it won't be strong enough. All the walls are now at least 2mm thick. I also took the time to add some fillets on any edges that might be under stress.
Very easy, just short pins one and three. Wire the DIN to a relay (I purchased mine but these are easy to DIY). Connect the relay to the radio receiver and setup the receiver channel to respond to a switch from the radio controller.
The viewfinder holds a focusing lens, small camera, transmitter, and battery. My first prototype is modeled after the waist level viewfinder but with the above modifications.
