Meanwell enclosure

A project log for Ultimate lighting

There has long been a dream of replacing all the floor mounted lighting with anything more practical.

Finally time to create a proper 3D printed enclosure for the meanwell.  Its tupperware one started disintegrating long ago & needed to become more compact as the rent grew steadily higher.  The meanwell only powered the rectangular LED strip.  It might have been wise to use it to power some of the recycled edison bulbs as the 1st stage of a 2 stage conversion but transporting the power would be hard.

Noted the voltage was set to 14.28.  The LED strips began rapidly going out after 8 years, so lions pondered kicking it up a notch & moving ahead with replacing all the LEDs.

A coroplast PLA combo proved effective on the dimmer switch.

The journey begins with a paper trace of the farstener positions.

The farsteners are installed.

Then things are assembled, voltages are set.

The original cable barely reached without any strain relief.  There's no way to add more cable without recalibrating the voltage.

Outlet holes are provided, though most of the air goes out the gaps in the coroplast.  Perfectly sealing the coroplast is the next frontier.  Enough air gets through the holes to actually feel the heat.

The lighting & blower boxes are in their temporary positions.  Note there's no way to adjust the voltage when fully assembled.  The leading idea is a PLA door on top.  Fortunately, the measured 14.28 was the same regardless of load.

The final condition of the original meanwell was shown.  Forgot the way younger lion reversed the terminal positions.
