$4000/square foot. That's how much real estate currently is near any jobs. A single floor light thus costs $4000 of room. The dream of ceiling mounted lighting began in the age of coiled fluorescent lights. Tract lighting was the best way to make them look reasonable, but a tract lighting mount in today's dollars is also in the hundreds for just 4 bulbs.
Even as real estate & tract lighting crossed new heights of inflation every year, LED lightbulbs plummeted in cost. This culminated in the appearance of 60W LED bulbs in none other than the dollar store. 60W floodlights could be had for $3.
LED lightbulbs had 1 true advantage for ceiling mounted lighting: They could be stripped down to a flat board with a lens. It was much cheaper & looked better than the past method of ordering bare LEDs from Cree. They could almost replicate recessed lighting. It seems simple on the surface, but the details are complicated.
The LED boards have to be reconfigured to dissipate heat into something flat & mounted on the ceiling. Power has to be routed on the ceiling from a central voltage converter. 50W test bulbs have had 6 LEDs in series & taken a minimum 35V 100mA. 35V is a hard voltage to come by. It would need the maximum protection from short circuits. The wires would have to be spaced apart. It's 1 of those times you wish the wireless power startups 15 years ago actually came up with something.
