I put together a remote-controlled Jazzy Elite mobility scooter using a Sabertooth 2x32 motor controller and RC Receiver. Then I was walking through Home Depot and saw this Halloween Witch Prop and I immediately thought "Shut Up and Take My Money!". It had a stand that it stood on (I assume near your front door), but I knew it would easily adapt to fit on the mobility scooter. Plus it has a voice trigger (both motion control and a Demo button on the arm) and moving jaw, it couldn't get any better.

UPDATE: I got the "Hell Rider" animated skeleton chopper and put 'Blair the Witch' on the back. Took them on a tour of a local car show on Halloween and also around the neighborhood for trick or treating.

OK this may not be a Hack since I just bought everything and put it together, but you could take it a step further and hack the Witch so she speaks your microphone input or custom recorded messages, etc. The combination of the moving jaw, the bobble-head, and the flowing cape and hair make this Witch amazing to watch cackle around in the moonlight at about 4 mph. This Witch is just plain creepy, even to adults (or so I'm told, by adults). Her LED eyes light up red, but it might be better to highlight her mouth with some type of light so you can really appreciate the fact that her jaw moves to the dialogue at night. The bobble-head whips left/right as you turn and bows as you stop short, adding life to an otherwise static figure. There is a lot of potential for hacks, but right out of the box it is bewitching. Sorry for the portrait video, I was one-handed.

  • 1 × Jazzy Elite Mobility Scooter Check Craigslist or Ebay, mine was not working for around $200
  • 2 × New Batteries for the Mobility Scooter That was all that was wrong with my scooter, it was practically new otherwise.
  • 1 × RC Triggered Relay Module The are several options, as long as it will plug into an RC Receiver it will work.
  • 1 × Sabertooth 2x32 Motor Controller I chose the 32A model since it is about the same price as the 25A and seemed newer.
  • 1 × RC Receiver and Controller Any type will do

    Step 1

    I'll try to add more detail later, but I will outline the basics with the pictures I have. First, I needed something to cover the scooter itself since the Witch's skirt wasn't large enough. I just got about 4 yds of cheap black fabric and stapled (faster than sewing) it together to make a larger skirt.

    Step 2

    I needed something to keep the skirt out of the wheels so I bought some cheap Lawn Edging material at Lowe's (since they had the smallest spool). I then made a ring and supported it with bracket at the back, ties of string to the main post for the sides, and a tied the front to the anti-tip wheels in the front of the scooter. This allows the caster wheels to spin freely without catching the fabric.

    Once I added a bracket projecting off of the bolt (centered between the caster wheels), the hoop's shape was more oblong (not as wide side-to-side). I just secured the Lawn Edging to the rear bracket with Velcro to allow easy access to the batteries and you can see I used cable ties to secure it to the front ant-tip wheels.
