Description

I used to do this as a child. Talk into a fan and hear my voice take robot like qualities. It acted as a mask that I could don to take on new personas. Except that the mask is an audio mask. I grew up in India and thought it was an India thing because there were so many air coolers around but upon interacting with people from China, Australia and America, I found out that this is somewhat of a universal experience. Almost everyone I talked to had done it at some point in their life or were aware of what the sound sounds like. Surprisingly, when I talked about it with people who hadn't seen this before were befuddled and did not understand what I was trying to do.

Details

I made a working prototype to test user experience. It uses a combination of arduino and processing right now. From what I learnt with testing it with users was that the current iteration felt more like an interface and less like talking into a fan.

I am working on a hardware only solution for it.
