It's easy to follow a projects but there is no way to find them after. I follow many projects and I cannot find the way to find which projects I follow, it's nowhere to be found?!?
There is a link near the bottom of your profile to view all https://hackaday.io/projects/hacker/117833/likesandfollows
It would be nice if the button "Discard changes" in could ask for a confirmation if there's some text in the editor.
It's not that difficult to click on that text by mistake, and if that happens, anything that was written is then irrecoverably lost.
I guess it wouldn't hurt to open a window/popup asking if you really want to get rid of the text, especially if the web editor is non-empty or, in case of editing an existing log, if the content hasn't changed.
Trying to add an image to a project a log can have DISASTROUS consequences.
I was writing a log, then I wanted to add an image I have on my hard drive. Like for other web editors, I was used to simply drag the image file and drop it on the page, but instead of seeing it added in the text editor, the browser simply proceeded to display that image as if it were a different webpage.
That's not the real issue. What's MUCH worse is that when I tried to go back, the text I already written went completely LOST! No drafts, no "saves" in sight. As if I really didn't care about I've done already.
Please add the ability to recover unsaved web editor contents. Maybe using local browser storage. Things like this can happen anytime - a wrong drag&drop, a link clicked on that page that didn't open a new tab, a browser window closed by mistake...
I don't have a lot of spare time to work on my side projects and keep their logs updated here on Hackaday.io, and it's really frustrating to see part of that time & work wasted because of an unsupported mouse gesture.
Thanks!
I saw your reply below, an unsaved changes prompt is queued for a release this quarter.
Hi all, when I click on the three lines and I see that I have 1 notification, when I click on My notification nothing happens. I'd expect to go to some notification list page? This is on mobile running Chrome. Thanks for any help!
It should actually load a small list in place, sometimes it's a bit slow. In the next update we are working on a better loading and retry visual so you can see what it's doing.
I have the same problem. I'm using Firefox on Windows 10. It's not slow, it simply doesn't work. At all.
This website automatically 'likes' projects for new users. Can you please stop it doing this? People want to know how many people are really interest in their projects, to gauge whether it is worth investing more work.
The last few signup pages for new users display projects and profiles to follow based on the interests they selected on the previous screen. They also have the option to 'unfollow' them before continuing. Any selections they keep will populate their feed on the next page. It's a fairly common onboarding pattern and pretty important to us. But I would be interested in hearing any ideas you have that could make it better for everyone.
I feel it would be better to make 'unfollow' the default option and 'follow' something they have to actively choose (rather like most cookie acceptance menus). Otherwise projects get cluttered with likes from people who just can't be bothered to untick boxes.
That would explain why some projects have been liked more than actually viewed. I can see it would be an 'onboarding pattern' for a dating agency that wanted people to think they were getting plenty of interest for their money, but it knowingly distorts matters. Why is it "pretty important" to you? Hackaday.io doesn't create an advertising revenue stream. It is pretty important to users that we don't waste further time on projects real people are not interested in.
Hi, my last project page (https://hackaday.io/project/176716-uterm-s) is suddenly disappeared now when I was editing it... Aaghh...
The strange thing is that I can download the files in the Files section using a cached link...
(e.g. https://cdn.hackaday.io/files/1767167560617344/A200419%20-%20SCH.pdf)
Yep thanks you very much!!!! :-)
BTW: Could I have done something wrong? Just to know...
UPDATE: I've just read your mail... Ok. :-)
It may have just been temporarily mis labeled as spam.
Hi, I created a new project, but it's not displayed in All projects. Also a number of views stays doesn't show up, even though I know my friends looked at it. What's going on?
Ok, I can see Views now, that it has over 50 views. But it still doesn't appear on All projects, it seems.
Hey your project looks good! There is a minimum time on new accounts where projects are not listed immediately. It should appear soon, and your subsequent projects will appear instantly thereafter.
Thanks for clarification :) Maybe it's worth putting in a FAQ/help? I love the site, great community.
The "My Notifications" button seems to be dead, and I can't figure out why. It doesn't appear to have a link associated with it anymore. Tried from both Chromium on a Linux laptop, as well as Chrome on my Android phone. Very frustrating. Otherwise, love the site.
I'm having the same problem. I have 6 notifications but can't find a way to view them.
If you are trying to click the red dot, try clicking on "My Notifications" in the drop down menu that opens on hover instead.

I tried this a few times, no luck. Right clicking on it doesn't give any options like "open in a new tab", so it seems that the link is no longer there.
Ok I think this is an issue of an error not displaying. Open in a new window won't function even if this was working for you. I'll troubleshoot and check back in.
Thank you very much. I did all I knew how to do, but web development and such is certainly not my thing. I have to keep finding this thread to check in on your responses.
Update: Mot sure what happened, but this is working now. I was able to get to this discussion thread from the notifications section. Whatever you may have done worked, so thank you very much. I'm not used to getting an actual, relavent response from a real person these days. Cheers, and thank you for all you do here!
I have been working on a long "Details" section for my project #Driving an LED Matrix From a Raspberry Pi and stuff seems to be disappearing at the end of the section. If there is a maximum length for that section, it would really be nice to be warned that it has been hit rather than just deleting stuff off the end.
So I just learned - never ever edit your log live on this site. A notification in my feed just erased 30 minutes of typing when it reset the frame.
It was the second time this happened - I thought the first was a fluke.
I'm calling shenanigans. There is a bug in the notification code that whacks in-progress log edits ( and probably other entry dialogs ) and resets the user page edits. So ya wonder why its rare to see more than a couple logs per project, eh?
Did the page reload after you clicked on your notifications, or are you saying it happened by itself?
The page reloaded without clicking notifications - while I was typing.
Ok there is no active push or reload that would happen on a project page after 30 minutes of typing. The site just doesn't work that way, so there must be something else going on.
Thanks @Richard Hogben perhaps it is something else, I'm editing offline and cut and paste to the page to avoid losing work. The only other work-around is to frequently save drafts ( sorta wish that was automatic ). I appreciate the reply.
I'm going to try out adding modal that confirms you want to navigate away from the page before having clicked on Save. It might have helped in this case.
Hi, are there updates on this? A confirmation modal could have saved my work as well, see https://hackaday.io/project/37-trollduino-v10/discussion-156698
The mobile interface is unintuitive. There are menu entries for creating new projects, new pages, and new project lists, but no entries to browse one's own resources, one has to go through the profile. I would think it's far more likely for a member to create entries from the desktop interface. In any case there is still a lot of space on the menu so why not add shortcuts for My projects, My pages and My lists? You had those in the last iteration.
Why do view counts get stuck? The view counter cannot be correct - for days at the same number???????
Sorry about that they are, they're working on getting this corrected asap.
Thank you for the reply @Richard Hogben ! I've been trying to gauge interest in my logs for a project and that became opaque. I've been pondering a few rabbit holes and won't doc them as I go if it isn't interesting for someone else as well. I appreciate that things don't always work as desired :)
This link complete biotINK bioprinting kit for Ultimaker 2+.rar at this page https://hackaday.io/project/14501-biotink-the-bioprinter-of-tomorrow is not working :(
Sorry for the newby question-is there a way to change the 'dark' theme to something more old-fashioned with a light background? I know dark is supposed to save energy on some displays, but cranking my screen brightness to 100% or more to read is counter to that. Hopefully some simple click?
At the moment you would need to use another tool to adjust the colors of this website. There might be some browser plugins to accomplish that.
I agree that people should have a choice but dark theme is not about energy saving, but rather that some people find a bright display glaring. It might have been true in CRT days, but for your typical LCD display, for a dark display the backlight is still at the same brightness and consuming the same power, only that the LCD blocks more light.
Another possible work-around for adjusting your brightness/contrast is the gamma setting for your display driver. When I'm using one of the CRTs in the shop, I have to turn it way up to see anything at all here. For Debian (and others), one command to try is: xgamma -gamma 1.5
The "views" counter does not seem work properly.
It doesn't seem to be just some delay, I have a project stuck at 161 views for several days. It has been featured on hackaday.com but is still frozen. The embdeded (and otherwise unlisted) videos have a couple thousand reproductions.
My project is https://hackaday.io/project/175543-easy-raspi-configuration
Using "edit project" I'm allowed to upload 6 images to the gallery. When I delete images, there is a blank space where I can upload a different image.
The gallery for the project has 7 images, and the 7th is a leftover from long ago.
How can I delete the 7th image? The upload grid only allows 6 images, and if I delete an image leaving a blank space, the 7th image doesn't shuffle down into the blank space.
The main project image is the 1st image, the lower 6 are extra, if you hover over the top large image there should be a small 'X' icon in the top right corner to delete it then you can upload a new one.
I believe only the lower 6 behave in the way you describe while the top main image always occupies that spot unless you remove it.
The main photo is a duplicate of the one in the UL corner of the image grid. When I delete the main image, the UL corner image is also deleted, the images shuffle left, and the 2nd image is now the main image.
I'm aware of the "X" in the upper corner, but deleting the main image causes the other images to shuffle up and replace it. There are only 6 images allowed, total.
This morning I figured out where the 7th image came from and how to delete it - it's a gallery image that doesn't come from the "edit project" images grid. The problem stems from my thinking that the gallery was composed of images from the "Edit Project" page, but that's not a complete description of how images get into the gallery.
Ah you're right, they all shuffle left. I guess it needs a sort order without having to delete them, or not auto shuffle left.
Yes the gallery will contain images scraped from your other pages, I can see where that could be confusing because it doesn't visually show where they came from. A link 'back to content' or something might be useful.
I'm having trouble embedding a youtube video in my project description.. Embedding in the editor works and the youtube video is in line with the text, but when I save the changes, the video disappears and is not shown on the project page whatsoever. When I go back into the editor, there is a huge empty area where the video used to be embedded but no video. I've resorted to just inserting the link, but very frustrating...
This should be correctly inserting YouTube videos now
Saw that the menu entries on clicking on the avatar at the top RHS are now more clearly worded. 👍
Confirming email after creating an account doesn't seem to work properly 100% of the time. While onboarding, selecting topics of interest requires multiple clicks on the buttons, and sometimes it doesn't even work. I think there might be some issues with that page.

"my notifications" button is literally useless right now, does nothing at all, only stays red.
