I'm using firefox on ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS. When I have a chat window open (say the hacker channel) and resume my computer from suspend, all chat message times are off by the amount of time the computer was suspended. Newly posted messages also have this time shift, until I reload the page.
I'm using Firefox on Win7 and message times are sometimes randomly up to 4 hours ahead (just happened this morning again.) I never use suspend, sleep or hibernate. I didn't think refreshing fixed it, but maybe that works now.
Hey Christoph, we know there's a little bug with this. I often get 'in 3 hours' :) Thanks for highlighing though!
Don't suppose there's any chance of an alternative light style.... dark colours can be so depressing ;)
I would love to have an assortment of boxes to put my project logs into a grid format, and also have featured project logs at the top. The list is too long and everything gets hidden, thanks for the opportunity to comment Jasmine!
We'll add your feedback to the notes for the designers. Thanks!
It would be great if I could have "draft", unpublished logs for my projects, and only publish them when I have them polished and filled with all necessary details. Currently I do that by preparing them in text files on my computer, but then there is the additional work of uploading all the images and adding links just before publishing.
Hey Radomir, this is already being considered. It's good to have the feedback from you. I'll put another tick in the yes vote for this feature. Cheers.
Anyway to delete a message thread inside Private Messages?
Other enhancements: hide/ hide if older than a month, 3 months etc./show all
We're planning to add a read/unread filter. I'll put in a request for your other suggestions. Thanks!
ahhh damn, it seems I have accidentally deleted my ESP board project? Could someone please recover that, if so?
fyi some person chaipojy825533 sent me an unsolicited private messages advertising their pcb fab. https://hackaday.io/hacker/85497
"Hello,Mr.ALex,we are pcb prototype company,do you have gerber file that we can make the pcb board for you?And we can give you 80%discount,one day delivery time,by the way are you interested in be our distributor? If yes,you can send to my email anson@pcbway.com"
Thanks for letting us know. This one has been dealt with.
If this happens again, please report them as inappropriate from their profile page (there's a link at the bottom of the left-hand column). Cheers!
I can see all the HaD prize entries from the More drop down on the top, but also wanted to see all the "Best Product" entries separately. I came to know that the link is already there [https://hackaday.io/submissions/bestproduct/list], but adding it there on the menu would be great so that they can see them at a glance separate from all the prize entries.
An option to make align="justify" for paragraphs in the editor and in the project description would be really handy. (In the editor it can be done with hacking, but the description is just plain textarea, so it doesn't work there. edit: yes it does, I just tested. But still, a button would be nice.)
Hello Szabolcs
hmm, I think this is unlikely to happen as it is a style thing. Our style is to have left-aligned text for the details and description. Using it on your project breaks with consistency. However, we're not going to stop you from hacking to get the appearance you'd like.
Cheers.
It would also be nice if I could set my timezone in my profile, and then have all the times (on the event pages, for instance), displayed in that timezone. Converting everything from PDT is kinda tiring.
+1 at least for stuff like online meetings. Localtime for localevents makes sense. Maybe add something like a counter or a "starts in an hour" texts
Then the local meetings should have the time in local time. PDT for Zürich doesn't really work very well.
This is a great idea. I'll suggest it to the devs. However, I think we're putting an add to calendar widget on event pages soon, so that should save to your local time.
The "add to calendar" widget is there already, but I would either need to use google or yahoo, or install MacOS or Windows to use those, and I don't want to do that for, let's say, personal reasons.
if it's ics it should work with thunderbird as well (it's been a while though)
Would it be possible to add Bitbucket next to Github in the "external links" networks? I host most of my code there, since they support Mercurial, and it would be slightly more convenient then. Unless you have some kind of an exclusive deal with Github, of course.
Hey Radomir, you can add any external link under 'other'. It's just we only have a few icons for specific sites at the moment. No exclusive deals :)
Sure, I use that, I just thought it would be more convenient if I didn't have to type the whole address each time.
You could actually collect all the addresses that people have used there, and add the most common ones to the list. Just a thought, nothing important.
Hey folks, I made some observations critical of hackaday.io (in the Tindie purchase comment section.) I wanted to expand on them here. I'm not a hater, far from it as I visit the hackaday blog daily. I was excited when hackaday.io came to be as an alternative to the unrealiable Instructables projects. So, with that in mind I have to start off with the color scheme. I am in a position professionally to advise you that black on a white background is a must for readability. Secondly, the amount of "white" space between sections makes it very difficult for the eye to follow. You need to think more about the layout of a text book, then a Wordpress blog. Finally, consider reducing the number of project sections and encouraging the completeness of the fewer sections. These 3 changes would dramatically improve the readability and instructional value of hackaday.io making it a a quality go to project reference. Cheers.
Hello Glenn, thanks for the feedback.
We are working on improving hackaday.io and the layout is definitely something that is being addressed. For the time being, white on black will stay. It's something that our community felt strongly about in the past, and it far from makes the site unreadable. However things change, so stay tuned about that.
Regarding fewer sections for the projects, we've only got one - we do have user generated tags, and curated lists, and search. Again with these, we are looking at ways to make it easier to explore projects and know there's still room for improvement.
Thanks again!
Is it possible to change the messaging view/send method such that videos/images show up as links rather'n embedded in the chat...? My poor CPU's chugging at 115% running nothing but the browser...
Hey, I'll put in a ticket to see if we can add a toggle in the chat settings. Cheers.
Arrgh! Changes to the editor in Project/Aseembly Instruction? You could previously highlight words and add a link at the position. At least that's how it works in project logs Now it would move the link to the top of the article. :( I am using Chrome here.
It doesn't do that on a short instruction, but it is there when you have a very long one where the edit menu bars shows up multiple times. This one for example: https://hackaday.io/project/6929/instructions
Wow. Steps within steps. It wasn't really intended to have those, so each step should be short. However, I can see how nested steps would be useful for long instruction sets. I'll make a note of it.
Thanks. Having a way to break the assembly instruction would be nice.
For complicated systems, you really want to have a hierarchical sub-assembly instructions and then a top level one too. Even a linear set would be better than what we have right now.
I would love it too, and also for the components.
I've too got an idea for a simple yet useful feature: it would be really nice to be able to add categories to the components list and the build instructions. This way, you could organize these lists nicer if you have a project with many separate parts like me.
Hey Szabolcs, thanks for the feedback. We have plans in the works for this, but it's good to know people want it,
I've got 2 features request / wish lists:
1) Voting Widget: Hackaday.io is all about collaboration, and getting feedback is great. Myself and other have requested peoples opinions in comments or I've seen links to voting forms other places on the web. But it'd be nice to have a voting widget that can be inserted into the hackaday editor (or some other way I'm not thinking of). I think more people would be willing to click a multiple choice feedback box than leave a comment responding. Things that would be cool to have with it:
A) Choose if votors can see the results before voting
B) The ability to close the voting
2) A Requested Features list: A list of features already requested. (Maybe in the details section of this feedback page?) When I got to request something I initially hesitate because I'm not sure if someone's already asked for it. I did a search on the top bar and also a search on this page, but not all of the comments are displayed so that doesn't work.
Keep up the great work on the site!
Hey Peter, hope all is well in Huston. I've added tickets for both of those. Thanks for the feedback!
Hello Hackaday, it's possible to attach Eagle file to project page for offering download ?
We are thinking about file hosting, but at the moment you have to host files elsewhere (often github) and just link to them from your project page.
I wanted to invite [Matt] (https://hackaday.io/hacker/16108 or https://hackaday.io/pretenda) as a collaborator, but instead the invitation was going to another account, https://hackaday.io/mattezell.
How it is supposed to add someone? If I simply type Matt, about 20-30 people named Matt appears in a drop down list, but none of them is the one I need to send the invitation.
Is this a bug?
The second question is how do I revoke an invitation to a wrong person, please?
Hello RoGeorge,
We've had a ticket in for finding people by username or id, but it's not been implemented yet. For the time being, I would private message them. If they go to the project page, there is a 'Request to join this project' link under Team (Right-hand column). They can use that.
I'll put a ticket in re: canceling an invite. FYI - the project owner can remove someone once the have accepted.
Glad to see you're collaborating. Thanks for the feedback, it will help us iron out any bugs.

people, I got a bug: when I try to read page 2 of the project I'm currently following I get the following link https://hackaday.io/projects/hacker/13582/likesandfollows/sort//sort/followers/page/2
you can clearly see it is malformed as there's sort twice and a double /.
BTW nice 404 page :D
