Thanks for letting us know. It should be resolved soon.
A few things that I thought that would be nice/helpful are the ability to insert a link between others on a project page, and the hackaday skull for one of the link markers (github/other/etc..), and when clicking on the followers link on a profile and sorting by newest, it would be cool if it sorted by the newest followers instead of the newest profiles.
I'm having trouble embedding image links into log updates. I only get the 'broken image' thumbnail. The only wait for me to put images into the logs is by reducing file size below 2MB and uploading to hackaday. Using Chrome v41.
Hmm, we do have a 2MB upload limit, so there should have been an error message when you tried to upload something bigger. You didn't get one?
Sorry maybe I'm not being clear. The issue only happens when I try to insert the image as a link, like from imgur. It works fine by uploading the images, but I have to go through to process of reducing file size below 2MB. It would be nice to be able to use image hosting websites and link images instead.
I just posted a test log to my project so you can see my issue. http://hackaday.io/project/3706-openbarbell It's the newest log.
Thanks for clarifying and for the example.
I just tried from imgur and am getting the same broken image, but if I just use a regular image it seems to work ok. tbh, I don't know if we support image links from imgur. I'll check.
What do you mean by regular image? And any update on using image hosting websites?
Hello,
In the example you sent the url for the image is http://imgur.com/gallery/kJpHkXO
If it ends with .jpg, .gif, or .png, it should embed e.g.
So you should be able to use any hosted images as long as they have an image file suffix.
Will we be able to put links in the description in the same way we can in the details section?
As it is, we can put links in both places, but in the description we can't link a word. It would save me from putting citations in the bottom like this. [1]
[1[ http://example..
Hey TTN, the description is meant to be short and plain text. This is because it could potentially be used when shared on social media, or pulled out on the search results page. So no, we are not intending to add this link text or editor capability to the description. Hope that explains a little.
I think that when I clicked on my PM button it made the number of new items in the feed disappear. I will pay better attention next time.
That is what happened. Also if I am on the PM page and receive a message everything works properly, but if I click off of the page the new message counter counts the message that I received while on the page.
Hey jlbrian, we are still fine tuning the new messaging. We'll use this feedback when we make more improvements. Thanks!
Thank you for adding an edit function on the CERN contest comments! After realizing I could get a higher resolution image I was able to refine my comments after the fact and spare myself later embarasment.
Does nothing happen if you click on the Jolly Wrencher/home button from this page? If you are logged in, the home button takes you to your feed.
Nope. Firefox 37.0 on OS X 10.10.2
Edit: Looked around a little bit. Looks like you require google analytics to remember the action before you actually go home. Personally, I think that's absolutely ridiculous.
Duly noted. I'll let the boffins know about the bug.
If anyone else is noticing this, please let me know with your browser/os. Thanks!
This feature really annoys me. I like to browse around and see what others are doing on their projects but I can't go to the public home page as it redirects me to 'myfeed'. I have to then log out so that I can open the home page and then login again to see 'myfeed'.
I am sure that most people (like myself) would like to spend more time browsing the io site than just updating projects.
To me it makes more sense to have a 'myfeed' link on the home page. I am sure regular users would find it easy to bookmark 'myfeed' if they wanted.
I don't understand the logic of having to log out to see a public page.
Jasmine, the post above was a reply to -
"Does nothing happen if you click on the Jolly Wrencher/home button from

But for some reason the post ended up being a reply to a different post.
Would've been great if the old message board would be accessable for cellphones - I can't see anything and it was my single "working" communication device :(
When clicking the feed next page button, I get to the next page but it scrolls way down.
Thanks Dave. We are working on getting it to work on mobile. We just wanted to get something out to try first.
you seem to have a responsive css design, "just" hide the new message button when the design is small and when its big hide the old message board button. This way the best of both worlds is out there - https://www.dropbox.com/s/iosgnztmbwi3lii/Screenshot_2015-04-03-17-30-54.png?dl=0
@davedarko, you seem to be treading on my "realm of inaccessibility" ;)
Desktop, here... but with flakey internet... I wouldn't mind if the new (private) message-system/chat was optional... could optionally choose to use the old system, instead (yeah, I realize I'd have to click the "refresh" button, but I don't mind).
I dig the concept and the realtimeishness of the new system, but I've been spending quite a bit of time (as in *minutes*) with a little spinning wheel and no messages, and new messages tend to show up several minutes (sometimes hours) after they were sent.
retro.hackaday.io :) before the messages had an email feeling. Now they have an instant message feeling.
The address of the local Hackerspace has changed. Is someone specific responsible for the entry or can it only be changed by the admin? Don't want to mess around with the database.
The hackerspace admin has to update the details. Have you tried to message the crew?
I don't know who is responsible for the entry.
I'll tell them the next time I see the guys.
haha, just saw that you can click it and then get the details with the responsible person. I know the guy and will drop him a message.

It's probably just my flakey 'net connection, but often I see most of a project/profile page and want to click the "Follow" button (and many other buttons as well, including "upvote"), and it sends me to a 404 page... It seems I have to sit and wait for it to load *everything* on the page, including quite a bit that isn't even visible (and plausibly even all the potentially-quite-large images?) before clicking a simple link!
All of these buttons aren't links but some Javascript magic with tokens and stuff so that nobody can cronjob the skullbuttons and no page reload will be initiated when clicked - same goes with comments. Before the cdn servers this took even longer, but I guess there is still some optimization possible.
ah! Thanks for the explanation. The optimization might be best-done on the PEBKAC side of things :)
hehe, had to google PEBKAC :) but I guess it's really just the slow connection :) it's sometimes tough on mobiles, too.
Hah, I wondered if you'd have to google PEBKAC and googled it myself just to see what you'd get... Except I accidentally googled PEBCAK (C/K reversed) first and was surprised it came up with the same basic definition but a little bit funnier. :)
I can't update my profile. It gives me this message:
Link title in External Links section can't be blank.
I've removed the offending link on the profile page but it won't update still.
Ah I got it working. The thing throwing me off is that it put a red box around the wrong link. It was different one that had a blank name for the link.
Hmm, that's odd. I'll put in a ticket for someone to take a look. Thanks for letting us know.
Yay, a "show update in feed" button - a thought on that: when adding a log it should default to checked, but when editing, it should default to unchecked. Also good to see the "view full size" feature in the gallery!
That's a good idea for the feed update, I'll put in a request. I'm really happy with "view full size" for gallery. It makes it so much easier for me to grab images for social media.
Is it possible.......?
I just loaded this page (Feedback) and it only listed comments that were 3 months old and more (definitely not a caching problem, I've cleared my cache *tons* of times in the last three months, and I've definitely looked at and even commented here many times in the past three months!) Then I loaded it a second time, and it seems more current... latest comment is 3 days ago... but I'm almost certain my Feed led me here for comments more recent than that that don't seem to be showing up?
Does it load the comments separately or something?
We did a release yesterday, so maybe the page was loaded while that was happening? Blecky had the last comment, with my reply a couple of days ago.
I don't know what's happened in the last few days. But when I try to edit project logs/details in the WYSIWYG editor I have issues when pressing space. It will put in a line break instead. It only happens on some lines, but it's really hard to edit logs now.
Interestingly, sometimes if you ignore it when saving it becomes a space and other times it stays as a line break.
Edit: this seems to only happen in the latest Firefox and not Chrome.
Hello Blecky. We'll take a look into this. What OS are you using? Is anyone else experiencing this problem? If so, please let us know what browser/OS. Thanks!
Do I need to respond? ;)
Iceweasel 24.6.0 Debian Wheezy. Been bugging me for months!
And happens on other Windows 7 machines with Firefox only. It happens when creating new project logs or editing anything. It turns up when you go to edit a line somewhere in the middle of the post. Adding to the post at the end doesn't seem to be affected.
If your problem's like mine (and it sounds *very* similar, but not identical... due to that last sentence)... I've found that copy-pasting into a Wordprocessing document shows the mysterious newlines as some odd/non-system-wide newline/carriage-return combo (can't recall which... out of order? Only one rather than both?)... which, in the editor, here, can't be deleted...and arrowing around it seems almost to result in its moving around randomly...

That sounds exactly the same. It's a real pain (so bad I've resorted to using Chrome just for hackaday.io).
It looks like this is sorted for when you edit an existing project log, but when creating a new project log it still has this issue.
How do I delete an account? I accidentally created a second account by clicking log in via twitter, when my original account was made via email (@toddmedema and toddmedema@gmail.com for reference).
Hello Todd, when you're logged in to the account you want to delete, go to http://hackaday.io/settings, click on 'Delete my account'.
You can PM me if you run into any problems. Thanks!
Just a reminder, rogue emails still seem to be happening.
Got an email for this comment: http://hackaday.io/page/834-hackinggggg/discussion-20442
All emails are set to off in my profile.
Hello Jarrett, I've logged this, so we'll track down the leak.
There is some heavy javascript going on that is slowing down every keypress in the hackaday.io text boxes. I mainly notice the problem when I hold backspace down to delete a few wors. Lag is pretty bad, when I lift backspace it keeps deleting text for several seconds (or more depending on how long I held the key down).
Hey Alex. Thanks for reporting! We'll look into it. Can you tell me what browser/os you're using?
chrome /windows 7 - also happens on my phone android moto x
This one's been bugging me for a while... And I know it's allegedly not exactly easy, due to the differences between HaD and HaD.io...
But, please add it to the list of things, when that changeover occurs...
It would be REALLY NICE to be able to Follow a HaD article, without having to add a response. Heck, maybe it'd just be a simple "follow" button that links you to the usual Word-Press follow-page...? Doesn't even have to link to my .io account, just to get emails would be nice...
Love the idea. There are some challenges with that (mostly due to the fact that Hackaday.com is on Wordpress) but will add it to the list and we'll figure it out. Thanks!
I'm getting a lot of
extra line breaks (aka enters/ carriage returns /paragraph ends) when
I paste text into Logs, Details, Comments, or a Reply box. Is it just
me? Fire Fox 36.0.1 and Windows 7. This text is a great example
because it was pasted as one continuous line.
There is not nearly enough room to type the background for my project. Fix this please.
Hi Lloyd,
Are you referring to the "Description" section of the project?
