11Step 11
11. TESTING!!!
Yes you're playing with 220VAC. So before we go any further, we must test to make sure this fitting is safe to use.
- Remove lamps
- Use an ohmmeter to measure the resistance from the earth pin on the plug to each of the metal parts. This must be less than 1 ohm.
- Use an insulation resistance tester (Megger) to measure between phase&neutral to earth at 500VDC. This must be over 1Mohm to be considered safe.
- Now test between phase and neutral @ 500VDC and the result must also be over 1Mohm.
- Test between phase pin and the centre of the lamp holder using an ohmmeter - this is testing the polarity is correct.
- Replace lamps.
If all of these are OK plug her in and flip the switch!
